I've mentioned this before anytime folks get worked up about performances and results. You think that things are going not too well but many of you never experienced the disaster that was the 1962-3 season. Never won a game in the league at home all season, finished with a total of 9 points from 34 league games. Equal lowest total in the history of the Scottish Football League, SPFL, or any other name. Relegated around the start of March. Bert Herdman and the club had parted ways before the start of the season and the Board appointed Hugh Shaw. Total disaster yet somehow the players managed to reach the semi final of the Scottish Cup.
I was reminded of this just last week when my friend the Hibs historian Tom Wright got in touch looking for some information about Shaw. I took him to task (in a nice way) for reminding me of that season which just about scarred this week laddie for life. He now owes me a dram ๐Ÿ˜„
Just hing' in there folks. ๐Ÿ™‚

I went to my first game in 1978-79 season where we beat Ayr 2-0. Since then there has been an handful of seasons where we have had success or there has been entertaining football to admire and enjoy. I include this season, so far, as itโ€™s not often we are fighting for a potential title and promotion to the top flight. I hate the hiccups along the way but would much rather be in our position fighting at the top than any of the other 8 sides below us.

The bad times far outweigh the good following the Rovers but when we get success itโ€™s certainly worth savouring and makes it that bit more worthwhile.

Now imagine you are one of the younger fans that weren't around in the mid nineties and all you've ever seen Rovers play in is the second or third tiers and the only silverware has been the challenge cup. I was fortunate enough to witness that wee spell of success and it really was fortunate because there had been Raith fans who lived their whole lives without seeing the club win something meaningful.

Rather have the roller coaster at the top and not down in the trough at the bottom.

PS. Honest guv! I did start very young following the Rovers.๐Ÿ˜‰

The family moved to Kirkcaldy when I was 10 years old. My dad was a strong advocate of supporting your hometown team. It took me a few months to convert, but when Rovers thumped Dundee 4-0 in April 1968 and so avoided relegation, that was me hooked.

But back to the here-and-now, this latest roller-coaster ride of a season contains many highlights that would feature in my top ten of over half a century of following our team, and for that I am very content๐Ÿ˜Š
