It’s the mark of a good team to win games when not playing well and that’s what happened today. The shape of our team was designed to counter the physical threat of ICT which we did, but with the down side of not having width and our more creative players on show. Top marks to the keeper for 3 really good saves in the first half, and also to Liam Dick for an all round good display and a fantastic goal saving tackle on Billy McKay.Stanton impeccable as ever, took a sore one late on and a tremendous effort by Jamie Gullan which might have been our only shot on target won the points.

A great determined display by all the team breaks the hoodoo and makes us top of the league. Keep it up lads, this might just be our year!

Ps A terrible performance from the referee and the railway side linesman. On another day ICT would have seen red cards and Rovers would have had at least 2 penalties for fouls on Jack Hamilton.

Pps Smith and Hamilton are making a huge difference to our forward line. Great signings.

What a poor performance. All those times that we played better than ICT with little or no reward but it's today we win.....somehow! 🎉.
The formation didn't work. Vaughany is not a winger and that would have only have been successful if he had been given a free role ( but today he was off it, anyway).
Hamilton won his fair share in the air but ,without support, the attacks fizzled out.
Elsewhere , no-one seemed to be able to find his man ,even when getting the ball down from the almost constant head tennis.
Kevin undoubtedly kept us in it, but whoever awarded MotM overlooked that.
But .....we play like that and go top of the League ! Other teams had better watch out !

We were as poor as i,ve seen us for some time and the game was a poor spectacle overall

Do I care? Not one jot as its another 3 points in the bag which is what really matters

That's exactly what the record books will show.
16/9/2023 Raith 1 (Gullan) - ICT 0
There will be no mention of what the game was like, chances missed etc., etc.

Summed up perfectly Franco, to be honest it could have been 3 or 4 goals for inverness , another downside was the juveniles running on the pitch, just where are the parents

Noticed that against Cliftonville too - in the first half, at least. Not moaning though - we won both games, despite that! The upside is that they turn it around - even when the chips are down. It is a sign of a winning team, to play badly and still win. I thought Dundee United had built confidence and momentum based on just that, and yet it is the Rovers who now go top! Just wait until we really do play well!

Just had a wee thought in that it's one year short of one third of my total life, so far on the planet, since we last won against them!😲
Scary stuff!!
And now that's me given my age away. 🥺
Even scarier!🫣

Wow.
First half we were so poor (Honking)
Second half a slight improvement AND an absolute screamer of a winning goal from Jamie Gullan. Superb.

So many players were off form.

The hoodoo is off and we sit TOP of the League.

We the fans keep on saying what a brilliant talented squad we have now, but it doesn't show so far in our play.
The coach doesn't seem to know how we should be playing????
How to rectify glaring faults in the team.... as said before - constant head tennis, and we rarely win out of that?
Selecting a good passing side.

I am still undecided about our keeper? He brings off great saves, then boobs, doesn't hold the ball when with his height he should easily out jump an attacker? Also he is so slow at distributing the ball.

Anyway, Top of the league

Let’s not kid ourselves on… Yeah we have broke the hoodoo, yes we won, yes we are top of the league..

Were we good today? No

Good goalkeeping (looked most assured since joining) paired with poor finishing cost ICT today

I feel our biggest issue today was intensity (or lack of)… not every game is a derby…. Crowd was flat, team was flat, going through the motions waiting for something to happen. Not good enough but hopefully a lesson that we need to inject it ourselves when required.

At least 75mins of instantly forgettable football, the changes made a positive impact which is great, goal was quality and we seen things out fairly comfortably.

Totally chuffed but stil loads of improvement needed

Spot on.
Our keeper saved our skins today for sure.

Murrays biggest headache with a full fit squad available is getting the team selection right. For me how Dylan Easton didn't get a start yesterday after an outstanding display the week before and being in the build up to a number of our goals this season was baffling.

I get it that Smith has been scoring and Vaughan baled us out against Queens Park but these are the tough decisions IM has to make. Without Easton and or Mullen I felt we were too narrow with little service to Hamilton. Vaughan and Smith dropped deep to pick up the ball and Hamilton became isolated.

It's great though that we've developed a habit of securing points late in games turning a defeat into a draw and draws into wins late on.

Gullans goal yesterday was probably the only high point in a drab affair but what a finish and what a result.

A crowd of just under 3000 with only a handful of away fans.

Wonder how many were paying fans, and how many free child places? Also what was the total gate revenue for the game compared to same fixtures from last season (taking a proportion of the paid season tickets into account)? Good to see plenty fans in the stadium - other than the pitch invaders - but ultimately it’s the cash that counts. Not easy to work out and maybe in the longer term a temporary hit is worth it for the longer term gain, but still would be useful to know.

Just looking at our fixtures list in the league between now and late December and they are pretty damn tough until after the 16th - with maybe just one game in that time that some might bet on us to win. We would still win some unexpected ones anyway. We would need to move up a gear or four from the last two performances, if we were to stay top - or even second - until then.

Sorry about the offtopicallity! Embarassed Smile

Regards the crowd, we played ICT at home in September last season, 1,745 in attendance with a much healthier away support (in railway that day)

Similarly we played Morton last season at home in August jist like this year… 1,600 compared to this season’s 3,041

Basically we are not far off doubling our numbers which is great work

Looking at a bumper gate for our next home game too when the Arabs come a calling…

If every league match had ended after 85 minutes we would have 7 points and be 7th in the league instead of 13 points and 1st Maybe irrelevant (a game lasts 90 mins, etc, etc.) but an interesting statistic anyway.
