If you look at the strikers signed by Championship clubs this season, there's only one who stands out.
Alan Preston is an agent now (I think) and was on Sportsound a couple of months ago saying that every club in Scotland are looking for a quality striker. Part of it is Brexit, part of it isn't being g helped by Premiership sides utilising more of their squads due to the 5 sub rule. Innes Caneron at Kilmarnock jobbed around a few Championship clubs, doing pretty much *bleep* all. He finds himself part of their matchday squad. If that's the standard of player being retained, it doesn't say much for the standard going out on loan.
For a variety of reasons, they are extremely hard to come by. It's incredibly frustrating, but its not unexpected to see Murray struggle to do something that the majority of managers at our level are struggling to do.
Frederiksen was probably worth a punt on paper, but it's pretty clear he isn't the answer. He's showed absolutely nothing in his game time, and I'm sure if he'd shown anything in training he would have been given more game time.
Connell and Gullan aren't the answer either. One isn't a particularly good striker, and the other isn't a striker.
Our season is banking on Lewis Vaughan finding form, and staying consistently fit. A bit of a stretch. Either that or Murray can pull a rabbit out the hat in January.
Hopefully it's something that could be addressed in time, and hopefully a good cup draw can help facilitate that. |

Some haven't worked out, but certainly don't think they have been panic buys. Looks like Mcglynn spent an absolute fortune last season on not very much. Keatings, Gullan and Ross all given multi year deals, signing on fees for some, and in Ross' case a development fee to Aberdeen that nobody else had deemed it worth paying. Add to that Berra deciding the throwing his team mates and the manager under the bus a week before the season starting.
I'm not privy to the finances at the club, I'm sure those more closely connected to the club can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd imagine that Murray is having to work with not very much.
He hasn't been able to sign a quality striker, but that isn't limited to Raith Rovers. It's a theme throughout the Scottish lower leagues. It is the difference between top 4 and mid table mediocrity this season, but that's alright. I'm happy to let Murray build a squad, but that may take a few transfer windows.
He's improved things from the second half of last season, which was a truly horrendous run of form and included an absolute catastrophe. I'm happy enough. |

Why are you limiting me to strikers?
None of his signings have set the heather on fire, O'Riordan is the pick of the entire bunch, none NONE of the others are an improvement on what we had.
I said we need a striker and you challenge me to name one that's performed. Ok both Dundee and Ayr seem to have managed this and I strongly suspect Hamilton will be at a Championship side in January (hopefully us!) after he failed (as has Tumilty) as part of the Hartly Hartlepool experiment.
Please remember Knowing football inside out and tracking players isn't my job. I work offshore I'm where I'm paid to know about boring *bleep* out there, Ian Murray on the other hand is paid to make decisions on players at Starks Park, so far at my work I'm yet to get found out, IM on the other hand is already open to question on his decisions. |
Sorry, but my point was made a few posts later, there were no strikers/forwards available when IM had an opportunity to sign any that have lit the heather on fire. I’m just pointing out that he can’t magically conjure a good player out of a pile of Rudi Skácel parts. It’s not tha5 it’s our job or not IM’s, it’s that the available signings cupboard was empty this year. |

| Akinyemi was a gamble much like Big John was for us. The only difference is Akinyemi turned out good. When you consider Akinyemi came from the 6th tier of English football there's no way of knowing how that would have panned out. |
