I,like most fans, didn't expect that result and performance today. The goals were excellent and the team showed great character to grab the winner after being pegged back to 2-2. I'm sure that i'm not alone in hoping that we are gradually becoming a team.
Next week is just a distraction so hopefully IM will give a few fringe players much needed game time. Onwards and upwards.

I agree. Definitely the best ref we've had at Stark's Park this season.

No complaints about the bookings and pulled back advantages he played when they came to nothing.

Could turn out to be a massive result for us. It was also a vital win with Arbroath and Cove picking up points. Hopefully we can use this win to turn in a number of consecutive positive results though I have a feeling that it's going to be an up down season in that regard. It'll probably be like that for most of our rivals though.
I thought our three goal scorers today were also our best performers. Brown and Stanton have become a good partnership in the middle, they compliment each other well. Spencer is going to have to wait a while before he gets back in the starting eleven.
Connell took his goal brilliantly and I think it was him that caused havoc in the Ayr box that led to the winner. Can't doubt his effort, always on the move and does surprisingly well in the air.
Connelly and Easton also deserve a mention. They are brave with the ball and Easton now seems to be finding his feet at this level though could maybe do a bit better with finding his man when he drives into the box. Often could have maybe done a little better after his own endeavour and talent had got him into promising position.
I like the fact that when it went 2-2 we continued to play our style and didn't panic trying to get the winner.
I've not read other posts yet so I don't know what the consensus is but I think Ayr are going to do quite well this year. They are big, strong side that have a direct style of play which i think will see them pick up points most weeks.

Agree on Connelly and for me ran Stanton close for MOTM but wasn,t overly impressed with Easton

Highlights are up
<https://youtu.be/-0IPbWb9OeI>

Connell took his goal so well but how much space was he afforded!?
For the first Ayr goal I have to feel that Nolan should have done better. Could see he was worried about the Ayr player arriving late into the box but he should have focused on just defending the space and not the man because in the end he did neither.
Fair play for their second goal. It was a good move.
Our winner all stemmed from a great piece of play by Connell. I didn't think he had that sort of skill in him.

The highlights showed a deflection on the first Ayr goal that I think takes it away from Nolan and leaves him a bit flat footed, it all came from Akinyemi just putting himself about and finding some space.

Not something I expected when I saw the lineup, but the effort yesterday was absolutely immense.

3 very good goals also. Particularly pleased for Connell.

Hopefully the Musonda debate can go in the bin. I wasn't convinced we were any worse off with the current centre half pairing, and what I saw yesterday didn't change that. Was absolutely rinsed for the goal.

Onwards and upwards.

As most of us have mentioned, I wasn't at all confident going into this game.

Over all we were very good especially in the first half, two excellent goals and several other good moves.
The defence was reasonably sound especially with their good centre who is so strong. The problem was exposed in the second half, when we continued to stand off the attacks, and not covering properly.

HOWEVER, our third goal was brilliant work and follow up work by Scot Brown.

There were several stand out players yesterday, Sam Stanton, busy players and for me Aiden Connelly was outstanding. He was all over the park, in the thick of things, attacking, moving the ball around and helping out in defence.

PS Agree the referee was very good.

I wouldn't blame Nolan for Ayr's first goal. Dipo Akinyemi ( quite a handful ) nutmegged the long legs of O'Riordan, with the ball then taking a deflection away from Nolan.
It's the first time that I've seen anything in Connell. IM clearly building up his confidence to try things ....but throwing the ball away when on a yellow card was very stupid. I agree that the ref had a good game overall , but he definitely turned a blind eye to that one ,which many refs would not have. Maybe spared because the ball and player were already out of play 🤔

Hard to see where goals are coming from with that starting line up, Oh well we live in hope

Well, Millen will concede two or so, probably lose another to a Nolan and O’Riordan miscommunication, and then someone else will make a silly mistake.

Oh Tex. Ye of little faith ???

A bit too early, eh?

Well Tex, for a while there I was working on a grovelling apology for questioning your prediction.

That is until Scott Brown rattled in the winner, and the defence stood firm thereafter. I genuinely thought we deserved to win that game though. Although our start to the second half was a wee bit shaky. However this was caused by a superb substitute decision by Ayr, and probably shows us why they were sitting top of the table going into yesterday"s game.

We beat a really good team yesterday guys and I really see a big difference in our team as we are getting more used to each other. I hope this win will give the team some self belief and will act as a springboard for future excellent performances.

So Sorry Tex. No grovelling apologies for you this time. However, I can recommend a book on positive thinking? Wink

Groveling apologies never desired or required…otherwise my poor knees would be worn out from making them. Cassandra didn’t get half the kicking she deserved, though.

The concept of getting a Raith fan a book on positive thinking is quite amusing, might be a way to evaluate the quality of the work…1 star makes no impact, 5 stars if you start to believe the Rovers might win for a few weeks.

I’m not sold on the really good team, as we seemed to find Ayr in a slump, for some reason. Certainly Frankie had his worst game of the season, per their fan comments. I’d rather like to say that it seems IM has finally got a wee tune out of his assemblage of parts, and hopefully that improves going forward…positive enough, laddie?

OK, had time to review the highlights, thoughts:

Our first, Connoll made a superb move and Frankie wasn’t that bad, the play was just so good.

Our second, never knew Stanton had jets like that! Excellent vision on the pass to hit him in stride by Easton, and also knowing he saw the pass left as well.

Their first, I think Nolan was correctly playing to the attacker driving to the front post, and Dick should have had the guy at the back post.

Their second, Ross is the most responsible, caught in no man’s land between two attackers.

Our third, excellent play by Connoll on the end line , though his final cross was less skilled…but the result is great.

Connoll, looks like a nice potential signing after all, if this is him up to speed. Let’s keep playing him over Gullan for now.

Tex. Is it not possible that maybe, just maybe, Ayr looked like they were in a slump because of the way we played them?

Sure…but that’s too much positive thinking for a day. I suspect it’s a combination of our play improving and they having the inevitable slide from their initial blitz.
