The gulf between the scottish teams and others in the champions league is massive.
Maybe UEFA should only allow our teams to compete in the 2nd and 3rd tier European competitions. |

Rangers, as the second placed team in Scotland, dumped the second placed teams from Belgium and Netherlands to make it into the champions league. The gulf between the top five leagues and the other leagues is massive. Even then the gulf between the English Premier League and the other big league is pretty big as well. Look at Chelsea. They are far from the best English side but swatted the Italian champions aside effortlessly last night. _________________ Fantalk~Often wrong but never in doubt |

6 minute hat trick from Salah. Scottish football really is dire when you watch European matches involving our best two club sides |

Embarrassing for Scotland - one of those games that will never ever be forgotten! TV money in England probably explains some of it, but there are much smaller clubs down there that perform far better against the top clubs in the Premiership than that farce. Did they even try? Celtic are not far behind them. It goes to show you the standard here though. The Old Firm are pampered here - decisions put their way etc. To a point, the rest of Scottish football is there for the taking for smaller clubs here, if they take a very close look at the small clubs from other countries, who punch far above their weight in Europe. In 1995, we were one of them! I am not saying that we could impact the on the OF, but the likes of Gretna (back in the day) Livvy and Ross County have all impacted our Premiership.

I wonder if the tribute act will change its name from Sevco to Sevenco? _________________ Dougie Hill

I don't think last night's humbling of Rangers by Liverpool can be simply summarised as a reflection of the state of Scottish football, or indeed justified by a straightforward gulf in financial clout.
Above all, what it demonstarted to me is the complete fallacy of bringing in 3rd or 4th rate foreign imports (also to include 'imports' from south of the border) - because what was lacking in Rangers last night, or from the 50th minute on at any rate, was any semblance of fight or pride. They went behind and, collectively, gave up. Liverpool didn't even have to be that great - look at the goals they scored, mostly walked through the 'defence' at will.
Rangers players should be rightly pilloried for such a woeful attitude. I know that, if it had been my team performing in that manner, I would have been totally disillusioned. But I'd like to think that, if it had been Rovers playing Liverpool last night, it might well have ended up 1-7, or even 1-17, but at least every navy blue jersey would have kept going to the bitter end.... |

Sobering times for Scottish Football.
Celtic scudded, Rangers humiliated.
Hearts are (as I write this) 4nil down in Florence, Fiorentina have scored seven goals in 135mins v Hearts which is the same amount of goals they have scored in their entire league season thus far!
Chuck in the Scottish Womens’ inept display the other night and it’s a full house this week! |
