Just came to mind that this season is the thirty year anniversary of that magnificent season and team which romped the old First Division.
If I recall correctly it was about now, thirty years ago, that we went top after the 1-0 win at EEP with an Ian Thomson goal.
Great memories both happy and sad, as my father passed away on the second weekend of that season, the day after the 1-1 draw at Killie and, alas, never witnessed what was a fantastic season.
I can still see the huge smile on his face, when in hospital the week before, after we had horsed St Mirren 7-0. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

Spot on Embow.
It'll actually be 30 years tomorrow since Thomson scored the winner at East End to put us top of the league.
It was the 5th game of a 44 game league season and we never relinquished top spot thereafter, despite being told every week on Radio Scotland by Chic Young and his ilk that Kilmarnock would overtake us and win the title.
We beat the Pars with ten men that day after Billy Davies kicked and niggled his way through the whole first half, before Ronnie Coyle decided he'd had enough and cemented him.
Thomson's goal was a daisy cutter from just outside the box with over 2000 Rovers fans packed under the shed in the pouring rain.
A tremendous day. _________________ Dougie Hill

Video quality isn't great but here is the goals from that 7-0 game.
Tremendous one two played by Ronnie Coyle and by the looks of it he finishes it from outside the box! That's not how I remembered it.
Brewsters free kick was still as good though.

Thanks for this Castle. What a lovely memory.
Aye, it is so easy to forget about the depth of talent we had within that squad. Brewster's free kick was absolutely stunning! |

I well remember that match but to my eternal embarrassment. Me and the missus got there about 2.30 and there were massive queues up and down Pratt St at the turnstiles, knowing she is not the most patient of ladies, I said, look lets not hang about here, we can go down the High St instead. Boy do I ever regret my generous nature _________________ http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ |

I recall the next home game. I am sure it was against Stirling and we were expected to score another barrel load but was a boring 0-0 midweek game. |

Almost deja vu thirty years later.
Scored for fun against Peterhead, then a few days later the anticipated goal fest against Stirling Albion never quite materialised. _________________ Dougie Hill
