As it stands regardless of who is in charge the bookies will have us at shorter odds of being relegated than of being promoted. Any appointment is going to be a risk. Just have to hope that in what is looking to be a very competitive division that we still have a seat when the music stops in twelve months. I'd go for Brown. _________________ Fantalk~Often wrong but never in doubt |

Wouldn't be my first choice tbh, but Alex Ferguson has to start somewhere. Jose Mourinho had to start somewhere. Jimmy Nicholl had to start somewhere.
It CAN work. Whether it will or not is more to do with the aspirations of our board to sort out the farce of last season, and get us back on track to the Premiership if that really is their ambition.
Brown is a born winner. Yes, he has his 'issues' but that was usually directed at players in light blue on the field of play.
If he is the next manager, I hope the board don't do something silly, like give him a 3 year deal, or do something silly like not give him a 3 year deal if you get my meaning. Its a gamble. If he is successful quick, he will be away. If he is rank, we don't want it ti end up like the last manager. Stale, crap football for the long foreseeable. |

DG would not have been signed without the say so from the manager. Indeed it is my belief that he would have told the board that's who he wanted and to get the deal done.

Broony is not going to be Celtic manager anytime soon as long as Ange Postecoglu keeps winning trophies. Hibs? well, maybe. |

You can add the likes of Lampard & Gerrard, Simeone & Conte, if you want to go further back, Cruyff, Dalgleish & Stein. Someone took a punt on them and things seemed to go rather well, even Alex Ferguson cuts his teeth at East Stirling before moving to St Mirren, the rest, as they say.......
Perhaps a 12 month rolling contract would be appropriate if Brown were to be chosen, gives both sides flexibility. There may be some baggage that comes with him, like Rangers fans threatening to burn the ground down, no wait, they already did that, anyway. lots of baggage but lots of experience and contacts. Would prefer Berra as his #2 though. _________________ http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ |

Is Brown not linked with a coaching job at Leicester? |

He does have baggage, that's for sure. But as a few have rightfully pointed out he's a winner and a local-ish lad. Could be a good start for his managerial career depending on how well he interviews etc.
As much as I disliked him as a player, he did have (some) qualities you respected on the pitch. |

Wouldn’t be a fan of this appointment to be honest. No experience as a manager is not what we need right now. We need someone that has a track record of getting a club to play to or above it’s expected potential. For me, Ian Murray is that.
I may also be the only Raith fan happy with McKinnon too but this is only on the basis of achieving playoffs with us previously and had us playing well. His most recent post was getting QP promoted too and he assembled the squad.
Aye he left for a bigger post but in reality, most of you would have done the same thing. _________________ RIP RONNIE |

We can all suggests potential names until we are blue in the face, but alas the appointment is down to the board and i have no faith in their decision making.
However, once the new manager is in place - regardless of their baggage, i will give them and their team my support, that is all we as fans can do.
Please not an appointment straight from the failures merry go round. _________________ Gallatown boot boys |

I will join you on that. Not just playoffs, but 4th behind hearts, sevco and hibs. Best of the rest. Who wouldn't have jumped ship to their boyhood team, bigger budget, better players, more potential, working closer to home and on a higher wage? |

True, however the discussions between McKinnon and Dundee United had clearly been going on well before that 2nd leg play off match against Hibs. The effect it had on the team was clear to see in that game and within hours of full time United were on the blower to get things done and dusted and over the line. If the manner in which he jumped ship had been a one off then fair enough (like you said - boyhood team, bigger budget, salary etc) but he then effectively went and done the same thing when he left Morton for Falkirk but in even more mental circumstances. He took a Morton training session in the morning and by the afternoon was out the door having been tapped up by Falkirk who ended up being fined for breaching recruitment rules. He got found out at Falkirk and I've no idea what happened that he ended up leaving Queens Park. Anyway, after recovering from a heart attack I'm surprised he's keen to jump right back into football management. |

Look at his record since then. It was his Rovers team that year that got him the Dundee United gig and then he got himself the sack there, after doing no better with his bigger budget. If he did well, he would hop ship in the blink of an eye, as soon as something better came up. If he did badly, we would be stuck with him. |

That's going to be the case with whoever takes over. |
