Nail hit on the heid big time!
Thank you Linktown Pensioner for bringing a level headed perspective to the nonsense about "McGlynn must go".
We all want the best every game for the club, results wise, but the expectations of some are just completely and totally unreal. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

I dont think it is totally and completely unreal to aspire to be on a par with St Johnstone, Livingston, Ross County, St Mirren, Dundee ..... its perfectly doable from where we are. |

With the greatest respect to everyone, but I've lost count of how many games we've lost or drawn from a winning position in the last 15 to 20 mins and the management seem incapable of changing it, now I wouldn't care if they stay or go but something has to be done to correct the problem, we are and should nearly always be a top half Championship club with the facilities we have, with maybe an occasional foray in the top league |

Arbroath who were nearly falling out of the top leagues six years ago until the "Bunnet" and his brother were enticed away from Forfar. Then had a somewhat chequered history up until they were promoted to the Championship. This is their glory year. Similarities to Raith Rovers in 1992-1993 are uncanny. Small provincial clubs go through these spells. We probably are on a par with the St Johnstons, Livis, Dundees etc, just not in the same league but top half Championship/lower end Premier
level of playing. St Johnston had a glory season last year and are now struggling this season but still sticking by their manager even after a horrible run of defeats through winter time. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

Don't see how we can compare ourselves to a club like st johnstone. Not a massive fan base but bigger than ours. A very well tightly run club for years and a number of good financial backers, none more so than the Brown family over the years. Added to the fact they have a stadium that does not appear to crumbling.
We will never be at the same table as them.
We are where we are and i would be happy to make play offs every year with the odd cup run. |

Embow is clearly older than me comparing us as a club to St Johnstone. Think they have only been relegated out top flight once since we were last there? Several top half finishes, European nights, cup successes!?… From the outside they appear a very stable, often no frills, well run club. Certainly something we should be aspiring to…
We need to be looking at clubs like Livi, Hamilton, Ross County, Thistle, St Mirren… They have all recently had prolonged stays in the premier league, gone back up after relegation, had tastes of top six, challenged for Euro qualification…
Is it wrong to feel we could emulate clubs of this size/stature? Of course not, this needs to be viewed as our next step if the club is to keep moving forward.
I dislike the view people have of wanting to ‘settle’ based mainly on previous bad experiences |

I don't disagree with that but we're not a club of that size or stature yet in my view. We have a fairly poor active fanbase given our average league attendance is 1749* this season. Thats not great. Some of it is of course symptomatic of the season we've had but even on day 1 this year, after what was a fantastic (and unexpected) 3rd place finish and play-off run we managed less than 1600 including away fans vs Hamilton. To achieve consistent performances etc we need to ensure we have a good stable budget and operating profit year on year. That doesn't seem likely given where we are now. I think instead of "settle" we need to "stabilse" and progress incrementally while doing so, starting to get most of those lapsed supporters back and building the community trust again. Even looking to partner with the competition in Kirkcaldy, a joint/discounted season ticket for fans who right now have to choose between Rovers and the Flyers for example.
*I've calculated that across every league game at home this season and excluded the two games with limited attendance in January, so 24,486 total attendance across 14 games. Drops to 1,569 if we include the other two games and restricted attendances. |

No doubt our attendances have been poor, you need to factor in live streaming still available, covid, cost of living through covid/power crunch also the Goodwillie thing.
Unlike some of the teams mentioned (Livi, Hamilton, Ross County) we have a fairly large ‘sleeping’ fan base who will show up when something excites them.
Finally, I didn’t say we were on a par with those teams but suggested them as an example/target.
Agree with your ‘vision’ Gary, all sounds great, would go great with my vision of new ideas, attacking flair and a promotion challenge next year…if only it were so straight forward! |

You're right, I did account for the lapsed fans as sleeping fans but if what was on show last season where, as a first season up we achieved a fantastic 3rd place finish wasn't going to excite them to return, what will? Covid is of course still a consideration we have to take into account and of course with the DG issue we've seen a visible downturn in the games at the start of february with less than 1200 at each game.
Cost of living is the main problem I think everyone has, something that we're going to see hit more and more in coming years too until things settle down, if at all.
You're right of course, none of this is straight forward, for all the flak the BoD have received lately for good reason, I really don't envy them having to plan for all of these and still find space for a competitive budget. If we're serious about being a community club and ideally becoming a continual contender for play-offs and promotion, we need to do something that brings everyone who loves the Rovers back. |

I wonder if the Championship team would fancy their chances more against a St Mirren team with Dean Lyness in goals?
Perth only six behind Paisley and still have to play them.
Wouldn't shock me if St Johnstone scrambled their way to safety. _________________ Dougie Hill

I think Lyness was only in because Alnwick was suspended. I'd expect St. Mirren to keep themselves clear when the split occurs. |

Maybe it's Aberdeen that St Johnstone will be targeting......and we've beaten them already this season.....just sayin' |
