Too sensible a post, wouldn’t post it on pie and bovril mind, been reading some of it earlier and you would get shot down in pieces…’rape apologist’ seems to be the ‘in’ phrase at the moment :/

I do also believe the CEO (if Val McDermids claims are accurate) and several members of the board need to seriously consider their positions after this fiasco.

No consideration required here, in my opinion there is no wiggle room left for maneuvering.

I cannot see existing or new sponsors wanting to deal with the Commercial director knowing how he voted.
Volunteers and fans in general don't want to be associated with the board members who not only appear to have questionable morals but clearly are unfit to take the club forward financially.
They have potentially ruined the club, any salvation can only lay in their complete removal if not from Starks Park then at least from the football club its self, anything less could amount to a long slow death.

Well said, Scotty. The commercial implications are just as bad as the community implications. If Commercial Director Mr Morgan stays, then I would reckon there would be very little commercial income to be relied on in the budget for the foreseeable future.

But let's be honest here - relatively speaking, our commercial revenues are pathetic and the development of the commercial operation by Mr Morgan in recent years has lagged far behind the growth and resurgence of the rest of the club over that time anyway, so it's not as if he'd be any loss.

His decision to side with the most damaging proposal and action ever to take place at our club shows just how far out of touch with the club's fanbase and customer-base he actually is. He'd be as well sitting in Thailand alongside Mr Sim for all the good he does.

Looks like the board are trying to tough it out, but without changes at the top the damage can't be repaired.
The remaining board members must take a long hard look in the mirror and realise that the staus quo will not be toleratred.
As hard as it is, us fans should boycott home games until the pressure tells and changes happen.

It's up to people to come to their own decisions of course but I'll not be boycotting the club.

Depends on your take on it all, a massive mistake but the work that went on before all this happened just counts for nothing ???

No chance I will be boycotting games, its a catch 22 but doing that hurts the team and in turn players on the park who have done nothing wrong in all this.

Club Statement

Tuesday February 15th 2022

The Board of Directors and CEO, having reflected further on what we have already acknowledged was a wrong decision around a deadline day transfer, would like to provide our supporters, volunteers and the wider community connected to the club with an update.

In doing so, we ask that everyone takes cognisance of the fact that a number of legal and financial issues are still being discussed with concerned parties, and as such we are restricted to the extent of information we can share at this time.

The past two weeks have been an awful period in the club’s long and proud history, and once again we want to say sorry for the damage that has been caused and to those affected in any way by the issues raised.

We fully acknowledge that there is still a long journey ahead of us to reach a position where the many thousands of people who are part of the Raith Rovers family feel they have trust and confidence in those of us who take the day-to-day decisions at the club.

Some of the first steps on this journey are already underway. We have reached out to the supporters’ groups, and meetings have already taken place, with more planned over the coming weeks to begin discussions that will lead to agreement on a plan to repair the reputational and financial damage. We know this will not be easy and we are not underestimating the size of the task ahead of us. It is, however, one we are wholly committed to in the belief that the club can come out of this stronger in the long term.

The past two weeks have also provided an important reminder that the club relies on the time, energy and commitment of volunteers across many activities. We have never taken our volunteers for granted, and we are saddened that some have taken the decision to step aside from their roles in the current circumstances.

We fully understand and respect such actions, but it is our hope, and sincere wish, that as we strive to rebuild and repair the trust and relationships within the Rovers family, that they will return to the club. Similarly, we hope that those fans whose anger at the events of deadline day has led to them withdraw their support, will judge us on the progress we are promising and in due course feel they are able to make a return to Stark’s Park.

We have also commenced consultations on a thorough review of the composition Board of Directors of the Club, with a view to broadening the experience and expertise of the Board and to ensure that all our stakeholders are fully represented. We will complete this by the end of the season and we will then communicate the results. Meanwhile the remaining four Board Members, the CEO and all club staff are fully engaged on keeping the Club going through this difficult time.

Finally, as a Board and the CEO, we would like to say how proud we were of the team and management for their efforts in the recent cup tie at Celtic Park. The score did not in any way reflect the performance they delivered on the pitch, while the performance and support from the fans off the pitch was also outstanding. It was a reminder of just how precious the link is between the club, the players and those who cheer us on.

It would be nice, just occasionally, if the BoD and CEO stood up and put their names to these statements, irrespective of the fact there was nothing in it, and took ownership of it rather than the broad brush they use

Once I've thought it through, I'll comment further, but for now....

This is nowhere near enough - bland, non-specific, and finger-in-the-dyke level action plan. It is time-bound, which is something I suppose (by the end of the season), but I still strongly feel more immediate and strong action is required.

I may be wrong, but reading between these lines, I very much get the feeling that 'broadening the board' means everyone there now will remain, but will be bolstered by others (ie, Bill Clark and Andy Mill replacements). These others will then find themselves operating in the face of a closed shop (much like Bill and Andy) and nothing will change. And by that time, it will be too late anyway because we'll be into 2022-23 season living with whatever long-term consequences of the complacent reaction to failures we end up with.

I read it slightly more hopefully, as the words you deleted within the quotes seem to somewhat change the intent:

“We have also commenced consultations on a thorough review of the composition Board of Directors of the Club, with a view to broadening the experience and expertise of the Board and to ensure that all our stakeholders are fully represented. I suppose they are at least keeping us informed albeit not much is happening. Good idea though that they are engaging with the fans groups, volunteers etc.
The board deserve a chance to get everyone back onside as over previous years they made huge strides in building the community club that we became and hopefully we will become again.

It looks like there will be new people joining the board which can only be good news and hopefully heal a few wounds among the supporters. This club needs its fans now more than ever. People that are staying away, and i can understand their feelings, are not helping the recovery process.

I'd imagine getting Raith Tv back up and running is a huge piece of the jigsaw for any announcements and subsequent rebuilding of trust.
The web page statements have been poor and generally not well received, a controlled televised interview will serve them better than any more bland statements.

You just have to hope that if/when the guys do get them in front of the cameras that they don't get an easy ride.

A rather long winded statement that tells us the Board have reached out to the various supporter’s groups recently.

“They have commenced consultations on a thorough review of the composition of the Board of Directors of the Club.” Do we believe that if the various supporter’s groups suggest the three directors should be removed from the Board, this will be acted upon? Or, are the current Board going to conduct a review of each other?

Another question that needs addressed is, when the CEO was appointed, why was the fact she was married to Paul Smith not disclosed to the fans?

Maybe one of the six directors from this time can answer this?

A big welcome back to the volunteers at Raith TV.

I was fully in agreement with your statement until here. I’m one of those you suggest is not helping, but I look upon it as maintaining a level of pressure on the Board. I have my own very personal reasons for this position, and fully understand there are others with differing viewpoints and approaches…and I don’t begrudge them returning already, but I do hope they remain vocal on the need to correct the course of the Club!

Tex we are all a product of our past experiences. Within your own past you have obviously experienced something that has made this awful mistake by the board harder to bear and therefore I completely understand and empathise with, your current stance on the matter.

Practically however, I'm not sure what more immediate action the board can take. We are where we are with this, and our/their only choice is to start from here. The mistakes have been made and sadly there is no time machine to take us back to unmake them!

We cannot ask John Sim to resign without a very wealthy and willing person to take his place, so where to from here?

I sincerely hope you can find it within your strength to get back behind the club i.e the players, and try to move on letting the Board situation sort itself out through time. However, until that time, the club and players need all the support we can give them.
