Raith Rovers played Clyde three times in season 2019-20. David Goodwillie played in all three matches. In fact at Broadwood he had Steven Anderson on toast and scored twice to earn a draw from 2-0 down.
Raith TV covered all games either in video or audio. There are archived match reports if anyone cares to read them. People who have now walked out were at these games.
Not one comment or moral outrage anywhere. Val Mcdermid was a sponsor at that time.
Now what's the deal here? Not in my back yard so it's ok gov?

Talking about how (slightly paraphrasing here) 'for the first time she is glad her father is no longer alive so he wouldn't witness what the club had done' and 'I hope it sticks in their craw everytime the board see my name on the stand', well I don't know, such statements weren't doing anyone on either side any favours in my opinion.
As for the posts about the trial perhaps it would be better just to leave that line of debate. A judge looked at all the evidence and ruled on the balance of probability ruled on the guilt of the accused.
Now of course the First Minister is in a position to at least try and amend the justice system so that criminal trials no longer have to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt. Yes some innocent people would be found guilty but many more genuinely guilty people would be found so. I'm sure we would all be comfortable with that.... |
Totally agree with you that the line of discussion surrounding the trial and testimony and the speculation about what happened should perhaps be stopped. Again, I don't want to have to moderate opinions and posts.
As for the comments mentioned by Val, I suspect most were done in heat of the moment comments filled with raw emotion. Similarly, the first "double down" statement from the club which was the most tone deaf, inappropriate, poorly worded statement was likely done without taking a minute to really think about what to say.
Personally, I don't believe that people found guilty (criminally or civilly) of abuse or sex crimes should ever be allowed back in a position of privilege such as a footballer. Absolutely we should rehabilitate them and allow them to be reintegrated into society and introduced into a new career path but to put them back into positions that are typically in the spotlight and at times, gather attention on nights out etc and in the media spotlight probably only provides opportunity to re-offend.
The justice system absolutely needs further reformation as it fail victims of these types of crimes more than anything else because Scots law requires corroboration and it's insanely difficult to corroborate crimes like this due to so many factors. The likelihood of a crime like this going to trial is 13%, that's horrendous.
We all need to move on as a club and support base, we need to find a way to do that collectively. Can that be done with the current board in place as they are? Unsure. |

Yup, that’s exactly what it is NR
Was brought up last week on p+b with reference made to the number of pages on each match thread and there wasn’t a single post mentioning it in any of them.
The p+b rovers cliche’s general opinion on it seemed to be if it’s not our problem then it’s not a problem… they all went along had a good day out, help pay DG’s wages and never gave violence towards women a 2nd thought.
As you say, Val never mentioned it? Sturgeon has an excuse, she didn’t/doesn’t follow football, Val just turned a blind eye it seems |

It would have been quite simple for her to have said in any of her numerous Tv interviews since last week, "Raith Rovers have finally seen sense, lets leave it at that" or better still "I have no wish to discuss RRFC, that chapter is closed for me now"
I understand her feelings and her right to do as she did, it showed her to be principled and that I applaud, however by her excessive media coverage (even after Rovers announced the DG will not play for us) she is doing the club no favours and you have to question why?
On the one hand, why should she do the club any favours? She didn't see eye to eye with the Board (Sim?) before so why make it easy for them now?
Mind you there's making it easy and there's going way OTT. She may want rid of the board (as do many) but she's risking her own alienation if she isn't careful. |
I agree with all the above.
Once we have finally moved on from this shambles and if there is boardroom change, i hope it does not include Val McDermid. Her reaction to all this has caused the way OTT media reaction. She has an issue with John Sim and i hope he stays in charge to keep her out. There is not a queue waiting to take over the club, so we may need to stick with the current board. The best thing the club can do now is get the fans groups, volunteers etc together and have a open and frank discussion allowing everyone to get it off their chests.
We all need to get back out from behind the couch and start getting behind the club again. If we don't then we could face dire consequences and we can't allow that to happen. |

No. Denise Clair has said so several newspapers this week, that she mounted a campaign with the Sunday Post, when DG joined Clyde. Denise Clair makes very clear that the SNP, including Sturgeon, were approached at that time and that they simply did not want to know! That would make Surgeon every bit as bad as she is making the Rovers out to be. It is maybe time for the club to point out the Scottish Government's previous dismissal of this matter - and their hypocrisy on the DG saga. I wonder how Denise Clair feels about all this being dragged up again now for a political crusade - and Sturgeon's sudden interest in football - now that it suits her current persona and her own personal / social agenda. I guarantee you that none of the soap-box-preachers even asked Denise Clair how she might feel. I might be wrong - I really HOPE I'm wrong!
There are also stories circulating in the press at the moment, that DG was made bankrupt and as a result never paid Denise Clair a penny. I wonder if the interfering FM, who has totally contradicted her own policies on reform, could pull strings to allow RRFC to pay DG's £50k to Denise Clair - and call it quits? Somehow I can't see that though. She will likely go back to her sanctimonious reform policies, to claiming to have no interest in football and revert to the position that it is not her place to interfere. |

Didn’t read that Neil M. Makes Sturgeon a total hypocrite.
Anyway, think I’m going to try and take a backseat from commenting so much and try to concentrate on the footballing side of things! |

Don’t think who is referring to what now?!
Meanwhile, I was simply replying to Neil M who quoted me and highlighted part of my post, no idea what that has to do with you or what your comment even means |

I'm going to crawl back under my rock again too, this has become a pointless exercise and we are just going round in circles and frankly, nothing we will say will alter the situation although I would like to thank NR for posting what I was trying to say more succinctly.
We will never all agree to agree and I certainly am not going to fall out with any of you guys about this. It has been cordial and generally polite and I think I will take my leave of this discussion on that note.
Back to football now, it is the only way forward and to bring everyone back together again. _________________ http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ |

I read your comment sans the full stop as a comment counterpointing Neil’s and the comment below it. That was wrong, but simply deleting my comment would leave yours looking weird, so instead, I apologize for misreading/misunderstanding your comment. |

I’m gonna take one more swing here, and try to find a nice happy middle ground we can all watch football from. Rank hypocrisy is a bit much for the majority of the complainers, let’s take a better look.
DG was found civilly guilty (BBC used the word) in Jan 2017, and Plymouth almost immediately released him. Two and a half months later, Clyde (then in League 2) sign DG with very little reaction. About six months later the MeToo movement takes off, but by now DG is “old news” in fitba, and it’s not like fitba is exactly a bastion of progressive thinking.
There are several types of fans involved here; you have the everyday fans who have heard a couple of different versions of what happened and how guilty DG was; you have less involved fans who nearly know who DG is; you have some fans who still believe boys will be boys; etc. It was something that was clearly below the radar of most fans while DG played at Clyde, undoubtably shamefully for fitba. There is also the argument about redemption, and that is something many people probably instinctively considered while not knowing the sordid details behind the DG saga.
Given that, it’s not surprising that DG stayed under the radar in a backwater league. The elevation of this matter to its current nuclear potential was the result of the last few years of MeToo and the Club ignoring its fans and sponsors warnings. There are plenty of fans who didn’t understand much of the background of DG and his actions no thus didn’t do anything previous to this signing, so assigning them as hypocrites is, well, hypocritical.
I’m in the unfamiliar fan category, being international, and only having been able to dive deeper since my effective retirement with the COVID outbreak. I’m now appalled at the failures to hold DG responsible in some manner for his actions and the willingness to turn a blind eye to his efforts to negate the verdict through legal maneuvering, and by our willingness to sign him as a representative of our Community Club. If that makes me a hypocrite in your mind, so be it, I’m OK with that, and will still stand by you cheering without complaint, eventually.
I’m still a Raith Rovers fan, and still believe we need to sweep the Club clean, but I understand it will take time and won’t be easy. However, until DG is gone, I find myself strangely unconcerned with the fitba. |

John Mcglynn has got the ball rolling in terms of moving forward. Everybody knows the matter is not closed and it's not a case of as you were and carry on.
But equally theres little to be gained by pinging opposite opinions back and fore.
Most people by now have had their view and made their point. But we all want the same thing. To be back talking about football with a team challenging for a play off spot.
Personally I think it's time to step back and wait and see what unfolds as the club starts to somehow put this sorry episode behind us and move forward. |
