How many times did they need told it was a bad idea, he was considered way back when Val was on the board and it was knocked back big time then.
In December it was put forward again and the publicity and threats from Val and a few others seemed to put the thing to bed. the CEO had told Val the club had no intention of signing him, but low and behold deadline day arrives and hes signed a contract at a cost of 50k and a good salary into the bargain for a guy thats 33 and would be nearly 36 by the end of it which is bad enough and also carrying an injury, but to have all the baggage that came with it and the furore that has followed
I have no sympathy for the Management the wheels have come off anyway, the CEO the Board or whats left of it and John Sim, they deserve all they get for dragging the club into the gutter from which we may never get out off, that is if course if the club can stay solvent after June. |

Chairman Update David Goodwillie
Printer Friendly
Thursday February 3rd 2022
I firstly want to apologise wholeheartedly to our fans, sponsors, players and the wider Raith Rovers community for the anguish and anger caused over the past few days.
We got it wrong.
In reaching our original decision, we focused far too much on football matters and not enough on what this decision would mean for our club and the community as a whole.
Over the past couple of days, we listened carefully to the fans who have got in touch and I’m very grateful for their honesty. As chairman, as a board and as a management team, we have all learned a hard but valuable lesson.
This very unfortunate episode is something that we all bitterly regret and we are now wholly committed to making things right. I can therefore confirm that, following a meeting of the Raith Rovers board, the player will not be selected by Raith Rovers and we will enter into discussions with the player regarding his contractual position.
We share a desire to do what is best for our club and will be doing everything in our power to regain the trust and confidence of the Raith Rovers family.
Chairman
On Behalf of the Board of Raith Rovers FC _________________ Hope he's got plenty Rovers action to comment on tonight.... |

Just made the BBC national news - live from Starks Park!
I'm struggling to understand how it got this far for RRFC when he played at Clyde etc, for 5 years with none of all this. _________________ Keeping the Faith (and the Missionary work!) |

I'd put money on it being the social media effect with having high profile supporters. More so after it was "trial run" back in December and the negative publicity it gathered then should have been heeded but unfortunately it wasn't.
So, sadly, here we now are. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

They say all publicity is good publicity, yikes not in this case unless it forces people out |

Hey Big Alex, you're right, it shouldn't have happened the way it did. His 4-5 years at Clyde have been largely under the radar and, whilst I accept our club has a slightly higher profile due to playing in the divison above Clyde, that doesn't account for it - we're hardly Real Madrid in the Champions Leagu after all.
The clear reason for all the furore is, as my first post on the topic stated a couple of days ago, the epic mis-handling of the whole business by the board. If they were determined to fly in the face of public opinion and various sources of advice, then they should at least have come out with an announcement that at least attempted to make the signing palatable.
Instead, they blithely tried to wave any criticisms away by citing 'a football decision'. That high-handed dismissal of the core issue was clearly always going to be 'a red rag to a bull' in creating a media storm.
Make no mistake - these directors have taken our club down, and should pay the full price for doing so. Reparations out of Mr Sim's personal wallet (NOT the RRFC budget) and multiple resignations. |

To add to the above, the timing of the signing was also a factor in my opinion.
I do wonder if Mason Greenwood had not broken at the weekend if this story would have attracted the same coverage.
Perhaps it would, but I doubt it.
In any case it was an alarm bell going off that the board ignored, there lies further culpability. _________________ Competitive goals: Easton 5, Vaughan 5, Smith 4, Hamilton 2, Dick 1, Gullan 1, Masson 1, Mitchell 1, Mullin 1, Stanton 1, Watson 1, OG's 1, |

Also fair to say that these last few years there has been a bigger spotlight on crimes against women more do recently, as opposed to when he signed for Clyde, which should've been an even bigger wake up call |

Bill Leckie has always seemed to have had some affiliation to Raith. I don't like the Sun, and barely ever look at it, but I knew, 100%, that he would have something to say about this week's fiasco. I looked online yesterday and here it is: https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/opinion/8380966/david-goodwillie-nicola-sturgeon-bill-leckie/
I agree with him 100%. You cannot claim to push for the rehabilitation and data-protection-rights of former offenders, then very publicly interfere and demand that the footballing authorities step in to do the outright opposite.
As alluded to on here already, DG played in the same city as the FM's own constituency for almost five years. It scares me too. It scares me that she can walk onto TV with impunity and shamelessly contradict her own policies without anybody questioning her inconsistency, either on that contraction or where she has been on the DG issue for the last five years - or more. It could give DG ground to seek legal advice. So might RRFC maybe, but then again, that would just drag the whole thing out and drag our club's name through the mud for even longer.
I am going to listen to Sportsound today and this week's chaos at the Rovers will almost certainly be discussed. It will be interesting to hear the views, not least from the women on Sportsound. |
