If this is how Val treats something she loves then wouldn’t want to be an enemy.

She has all the right and plenty reason to pull her sponsorship but to go on and on, tarnishing our club, damaging our club, getting on to every bit of news, tv, radio… Good for profile? Sell a few more books?

Raith Rovers are a part of Kirkcaldy, part of Scottish Football, been a part of so many people’s lives for almost 150 years!

The vast majority of fans just want a team to be proud of, that does the best it can, achieves the best it can…a game at Starks, a wee trip away..time with friends and/or family…a few hours to forget the everyday rat race…even just the joy of tuning in to scores from afar and seeing we have won a game.

The decisions of three or four people in the boardroom don’t represent the views or the institution that is RRFC and it’s thousands of supporters.

Excellent post and bang on the money

Val Mcdermid withdrew her sponsorship which is her absolute right.

The club reversed the decision quickly to which she was vehemently opposed.

She does not have a right in my opinion to continue her crusade to destroy the club. The only people she is hurting now are the very people she claims to represent and for whom the club exists in the first place.

Nail head firmly hit, whatever her personal issues are with John Sim or whoever shes made her point, if its some sort of crusade the lady has gone off on, then its time she started involving Clyde in this as well, they brought him back into football, so if anything are as guilty as we are

They guy is gone from the club, other things wont happen overnight

Being critical of VMcD is wrong headed, IMO, without her continued pressure, the actions of the volunteers and employees who have done the honourable thing would be lost.
The board and club will only change for the better if there is continued pressure from outwith their golden circle to affect positive change.

Absolutely correct. Those suggesting Val is on a crusade to destroy the Club are wrong and misguided. She is on a crusade against the sport as a whole ignoring this matter, and the Rovers simply were the catalyst for this when they poked all women in the eye.

The number of people suggesting Val should crawl back into her kitchen/hole/spiderweb now that the Rovers have agreed to not play DG is mind-boggling. That is akin to telling women to be quite and get back to their knitting because the story is over, and is a telling sign that the person saying it doesn’t get just how deeply this hurt is felt or doesn’t really believe that women are equally entitled to respect and a hearing.

Don't be a sanctimonious twat, no one has said she should go back to her knitting or Kitchen/Hole/Spidersweb,
Her fight should now be taken up with the SFA/SPFL, and let our current Board get on with getting fully rid of DG once and for all

VMcD sees the only way out of all this is to remove SIM and the rest of the board. I can't see this happening without the total demise of RRFC. as it is hard to see where the money and the replacements would come from.

Solution.............. VMcD spends some of her millions to buy our SIM and install herself as Chair and surround herself with a likeminded and sympathetic board.

That is of course assuming she loves the club as much as she says and not on a crusade to destroy the club as some have suggested.

Sorry Tex but I will have to disagree with you on this, but please hear me out.
In December when this move was mooted, she went straight to the press about it and it caused a bit of a wee stooshie. Now, whether the board were calling her bluff or thought it would be okay as he had been playing for Clyde for 5 years without any hint of his past (and what allegedly happened to the complainant) coming back to the surface. As a club sponsor, albeit the main one, and no longer a director, she has no say in signing policy with the exception of withdrawing her support.

Apparently this was not enough for her and she took to social media and, given her global reach, destroyed a club she and her family have loved for decades, split asunder the support, volunteers and BoD. She has dragged the complainants name all through the press again and ensured that DG won't play football again, at least in the UK, and will have to find other means to support his family. With two tweets she got this club more press coverage than when we won the cup! She even dragged her wee ginger pal in to the extent she made statements not even realising DG had been playing the past 5 years in one of her constituencies. And why did she do this? Because the BoD that run the club, didn't do what she wanted them to do, so she threw her toys out of the pram and did untold damage.

Now there are many things in life I don't understand (yeah really) but I would like to know if anyone can answer these questions. Was DG conviction in a civil court for rape only valid when he moved to the Rovers or has it always been so ?

When we played them in League 1 a couple of seasons back, was there a boycott by any of our directors or fans because 'they were fielding a rapist'
Were any of the games covered by just Raith TV or by the worlds press because 'they were fielding a rapist'

Actually the answer to all 3 in no. Apparently nobody at all Rovers minded had a problem when he was Clyde's rapist, but they do when he is our rapist.

Incredible double standards.

Further, your comment:

The number of people suggesting Val should crawl back into her kitchen/hole/spiderweb now that the Rovers have agreed to not play DG is mind-boggling. That is akin to telling women to be quite and get back to their knitting because the story is over, and is a telling sign that the person saying it doesn’t get just how deeply this hurt is felt or doesn’t really believe that women are equally entitled to respect and a hearing

This is purile, false and frankly way below the level of generally well considered argument you normally present. As per the excellent stats you provide us with, stick to the facts, people will have a lot more respect for you.

I've been married 39 years and have a daughter, nobody needs to tell me who is the boss in this house, and for the avoidance of doubt, it's not me!

Sorry, but any people suggesting Val shut up or leave the Rovers alone are pigeon holing themselves, regardless of their true feelings. The matter she is arguing is real and VERY offensive to a large segment of the population. A little balm (we’ll not play him) and some makeup (we let him go) doesn’t patch up the gash this signing caused.

I’d love to move forward and support the Rovers without this mess trailing behind us, but it has clearly exposed issues…issues we were all guilty of ignoring while DG played for Clyde. I was equally guilty of not complaining about his play, and was actually unaware of the extent of his violations and the somewhat murky events surrounding the no prosecution decision, until I read the Civil Case documents. After that, having to explain such to female relatives has made it very clear that change is still badly needed, and as such I posted the above.

If you disagree and wish to call me names, have at it…but I know that this matter will not be swept under the rug, and must be addressed. The dirty little secret of good players being allowed to “get away” with stuff has been bubbling to the surface in many sports and countries recently, and will be resolved. Raith Rovers will change and adapt, I just hope it’s in a positive manner under new leadership in a relatively short term, without a period in the wilderness.

Agree and disagree, it is very real but, it should be offensive to the entire population, it also flies in the face of rehabilitating offenders, whatever their crime. Should David Martindale be sacked from his role at Livingston for his past demeanours now he is rehabilitated? Have a read.
For McDermid to be the self proclaimed saviour of Scottish football, let us see her take on the likes of Celtic for the atrocities committed by those running the boys clubs. Hibs, Falkirk, Partick, the list goes on and on, then again perhaps she doesn't love those clubs enough to destroy them. She cannot demand that politicians look into who plays professional sport, because our BoD didn't bow down to her threats.
Believe me when I tell you she has damaged her own reputation and that of the First Minister by dragging her into it without all the facts.

As an aside, and perhaps not the correct place to discuss this so mods please feel free to delete this bit, I actually took the time to read the entire transcript of the trial, all the witness statements, numerous Professors etc etc. The complainant was deemed insufficiently cognisant through excess alcohol to be to confirm or deny consent for the act (am going to try and clean this up) yet, in David Robertson's testimony, she told him not to impregnate her as she didn't want another child, at which point he 'withdrew' as he didn't want to cheat on his partner (bit late chap) at this point the complainant was also freely involved in an other act with a seated DG.
Just doesn't make sense to me Confused

Let’s not forget the part after Robertson left, when the neighbour in flat above heard laughing, singing, giggling from DG and complainant before and during what he described as definitely sex taking place with male and female voices heard throughout.

Whatever happened, probably a bad idea for her to get hammered to the point she has no memory, ignore advice from best friend, refuse lift home from taxi driver and head into an empty flat, in a strange area with two guys you hadn’t spoke to before that evening with the intent on having sex with one of them.

If she was sexually assaulted, did she deserve it? Obviously not before people suggest that’s what I’m saying.

I wouldn't say Ms McD is on a crusade to ruin Raith Rovers Football Club but it would appear she's certainly on a crusade of some sort.

It would have been quite simple for her to have said in any of her numerous Tv interviews since last week, "Raith Rovers have finally seen sense, lets leave it at that" or better still "I have no wish to discuss RRFC, that chapter is closed for me now"

I understand her feelings and her right to do as she did, it showed her to be principled and that I applaud, however by her excessive media coverage (even after Rovers announced the DG will not play for us) she is doing the club no favours and you have to question why?

On the one hand, why should she do the club any favours? She didn't see eye to eye with the Board (Sim?) before so why make it easy for them now?
Mind you there's making it easy and there's going way OTT. She may want rid of the board (as do many) but she's risking her own alienation if she isn't careful.

Yeah pretty much agree with that Scotty. She seemed to really relish putting the boot in and some of her statements sounded to be purposely emotive. Talking about how (slightly paraphrasing here) 'for the first time she is glad her father is no longer alive so he wouldn't witness what the club had done' and 'I hope it sticks in their craw everytime the board see my name on the stand', well I don't know, such statements weren't doing anyone on either side any favours in my opinion.

As for the posts about the trial perhaps it would be better just to leave that line of debate. A judge looked at all the evidence and ruled on the balance of probability ruled on the guilt of the accused.
Now of course the First Minister is in a position to at least try and amend the justice system so that criminal trials no longer have to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt. Yes some innocent people would be found guilty but many more genuinely guilty people would be found so. I'm sure we would all be comfortable with that....

Robertson was a school friend, hardly a complete stranger

*Oh, my post was meant to say ‘spoken to in years’.
