Varian is surely in the team to both score goals and assist in goals. Despite his workrate, which is not is question, he is doing neither.

Not sure if Majet is the answer either, but I feel he needs a chance from the start of games for a bit.

Both are decent enough players, but both are similarly limited when it comes to putting the ball in the net. For that reason, I don't agree that Poplatnik is a better option - just a different type of link-up player to Varian

Give young Mahady a chance, he couldn't do any worse.

Mitchell would be the far superior choice for a chance. Mahady looked very raw in less than 180 minutes at Cowdenbeath, at League Two level…Mitchell has looked much more capable in very limited play at the Championship level. Neither is truly ready at this level, and both could do with a/another loan spell.

I hate to say it but I told you so!!
From day one when we signed Matej I made a comment that he will score us goals and will get us 15+ goals IF given a chance.
In 9 league starts he has scored 6 goals plus 2 goals in the cup - now imagine how many goals he would’ve scored if he was given a chance from the start of the season and was played to his strengths.
Everyone was screaming and shouting for a new striker and all that shambles with Goodwillie and all along we had a Striker that we needed!!

That's the result of having an utterly clueless manager.

But if we can see that he should be starting and playing then surely someone that has 30+ years experience of football has to be able to see and recognise that? Just really disappointing especially now that we find ourselves in this position trying to make playoffs and having to depend on other teams results.

Yip, i share your pain. I keep calling him a manager, but he's more like a coach. During this season he's always talked up Varian and played him ahead of Poplatnik, but the lad offers very little. Another example was when Bene came back from a hamstring injury a few months back Lang and Berra were outstanding. He changed to a back three to accommodate his captain. Also,in previous seasons Davo was always guaranteed his place back after numerous periods of injury or suspension. We have some good players at the club, but we're playing with the handbrake on.

Strathallan Rover you are spot on - it seems if you are managers favourite you are guaranteed to play doesn’t matter how bad you are.
It really is a shame as we would’ve been already guaranteed play-off spot if Poplatnik played more I am 100% certain of that.

We'd perhaps have another point on the board if he hadn't assisted the first Inverness goal last week anyway Laughing

Take away his league goals and we are 10 points worse off and fighting to stay in the league 🤦‍♂️

Take away any of our players goals and the same could be said. We shouldn't have to rely on one player to score the goals, as a team we're not doing well enough. It's archaic to believe that your goals need to come from a striker alone, they're only part of it.

What I like about Matej is his link up play, his first touch is great, as every players should be, but he gives himself an advantage by being quicker than the rest too.
