On radio Scotland news tonight that Goodwillie's victim is considering a private prosecution against him.

This will muddy the waters even more as far as Rovers are concerned.
They won't want to pay him off with a lump sum in case he ends up in the slammer and his contract could have been torn up, but I'd imagine the timescale in prosecuting a case like this would be extremely lengthy.

Or playing Devil's advocate, what happens if the private prosecution finds him Not Guilty?

The club have already announced that they would not be playing him, which could muddy the waters even more, because he could claim that was the club's decision, not his and argue that if his services were not required anyway, being in jail would make no difference - the club would still owe him - he would claim.

The more I see / hear of this, the more I realise how little homework the club did. When Bene commented - second time - Denise Claire responded directly to his comments in the Courier. She was dignified and did not attack him, but held it up as an example of old attitudes dying hard. The club could do worse than to invite Denise Claire to sit down with the club - BoD, management and players and discuss what she herself might see as a way forward for the club. Her suggestions (if any) may or may not be achievable or realistic, but the one person who has suffered most in all this would at least be heard. I don't mean some phoney publicity stunt, but without the club themselves making it public at all. There might be nothing in it for the club, other than doing the right thing.

SG...........you are saying that DG victim is considering a private prosecution.

Couple of questions...

Where did you hear this?
Why now? (although I can see how the "opportunity" has arisen) Why not 5 or more years ago?
What does she expect to achieve?
Who is going to pay her legal bills? Crowdfunding? Sympathetic, monied benefactor?

Radio Scotland carried this item on Monday.

I didn't catch all of it but my understanding was she was going after him for the non payment of the money awarded by the judge in the civil case, the money wasn't paid due to his declaring bankruptcy.

Likelyhood of this happening i,d suggest is slim.Think theres only been something like 2 private prosecutions granted in the last century plus led to believe DG and DR would have to agree to it.

I remember reading that after declaring himself bankrupt his house was repossessed to pay the legal fees. The judge told Denise Clair not to expect any money as probably most of it will be required to pay for everything.

It's such a mess now and you will be,like me, just wanting to get back to all matters on the pitch.

Other than releasing him completely, I can only assume that talks with DG about his release haven't gone as hoped, a loan was the only move the club could make until the summer. Clydes signing tweet has already had 150 responses about it, not many of them positive.

North Lanarkshire council, being the owners of broadwood have banned DG from entering the stadium. Can only play away games then????

And from May 2023 Clyde will no longer be allowed to play here.

sooooo not much chance of him signing on permanent at the end o the season as hoped then? Rolling Eyes

I feared it'd be too good to be true, looks very much like RRFC will still have to foot the bill for his contract, unless the Clyde directors are even more clueless than ours were.
£60k transfer and £1100/week for 134 weeks, minus what ever (if anything) Clyde have signed up for. Assuming that's £200,000 (not including lost sponsorship etc), the easy solution is that the gang of 4 (and I don't mean Roy Jenkins etc) chip in £50k each from their own pockets and we move on.

A big whack in their savings I'll agree but then again it was a such big mistake to make.

Think that calculation is on the conservative side Scotty, he can easily demand his basic contract and all sporting bonuses be paid as well, appearance fees, goal bonuses, performance bonus, share of team bonuses for the full duration of his contract etc. Could easily be £250k minimum, he holds all the cards and his bargaining position has just gone up now that he's a complete countrywide pariah now, no club will ever sign him, his career is over.

You have to wonder though.............DG was there for 5 years, and there is nothing new about his history that has emerged so why is it only now that everyone in that part of the world have suddenly become so indignant? OK the publicity has highlighted things but blind eyes have been turned it seems.

Exactly Alex

Why did North Lanarkshire Council not take this action 4/5 years ago?
