Firstly this is not a dig at Raith Tv the volunteers or the club.
Last season I suffered buffering during quite a few games on Raith Tv. I raised this in discussion with the CEO and it was suggested it was an issue at my end. I pointed out that my home set up is Virgin Media fibre 100m meaning 100 mbits/sec and that I had experienced no issues with buffering when streaming away games or other services (eg Netflix). Also I know discussing key events in games with other fans that they had buffered at exactly the same time.
I could be wrong but had thought that buffering issues coincided with heavy chat board activity on the Raith Tv page leading me to wonder if the network to server traffic at Starks Park could be an issue (Dave Wright may have more info). My worry is that increasing the free wifi around the ground to all spectators could prove detrimental to stream quality.

Thought I’d post this wee survey to see how many folks had issues.

Scotty, my experience was very little buffering in most games, but a limited amount during a couple. I cannot pin it to board activity, and have since identified an issue with my home router that may have contributed. However…

-Wireless casting is a weak point for RaithTV. The chat board, while a great feature, seems to cause buffering or stuttering on its update cycle when the video is being cast from a device to a smart TV.

-Chat board works great for tech support and problem identification, but may hinder smooth streaming, so what’s the answer?

-Probably needs a professional evaluation of our RaithTV server and broadcast setup to assure a smoother operation.

All that being said, RaithTV was still the class act by far last year. Put the others to shame, including Hearts broadcast and the BBC’s. Morton’s stream was the only one with anything close to comparable knowledge and neutrality.

Similar to Scotty, i'm a Virginmedia customer on their 500 package running through a Google mesh WiFi setup. Streaming Netflix, downloading large application source code from Github etc, using zoom calls and running a real time connection to a virtual call centre simultaneously does not impact my bandwidth unless the router needs a routine rebooting. However, I experienced a few issues on Raith TV depending on what device I was using.

- Streaming to my TV through its inbuilt browser was the worst, lots of buffering and the occasional stutter.

- Using a gaming console which has a native edge browser in it was better, but streaming it to a portable tablet device or to my PC was the best.

No device managed to stop the occasional "This stream is offline" issues that were few and far between, but annoying when they happened.

I did notice yesterday watching the pre-season video with JMcG that the videos were recorded at 50fps which, if thats the same for live games, may account for some issues on some devices trying to support against its frame rate. Anyone who has devices that support a 50hz display option could perhaps try to switch to this and see if it helps their broadcast.

It would also be nice if users had an option to disable the chat board on live streams rather than hide it by going full screen but that would be a personal preference I think.

As originally mentioned these are the issues experienced throughout last season, but it in no way diminished the quality that the team provided all season, its a power of work at the best of times but more so as volunteers, well done to all.

PS, really hope you've got a separate broadband line for the live stream than the one being used to provide free WiFi to supporters, for security as much as reliability. Laughing

I had buffering quite a bit but it was through my own fault really ignoring the advice not to use the TV browser!

We tried various things even resorting to hard wiring Ethernet cable from the super fast Virgin Router to the new laptop and then a hdmi cable into the tv, we still experienced on average a buffering or occasional “loss of signal” at least once in each half of every game.

It may be a server issue I've an android box hard wired to router on virgin wouldn't say I had a buffering issue just went offline on most games a refresh solved that. I installed Firefox browser seemed to work better, a few away games I had no issues.

I've a paid iptv sub and don't receive any issues on buffering when watching live sport etc because the server or servers are large enough to cope.

The stutter upon chat update, around every 15 seconds, occurred even in full screen, so I’m not sure even the option of switching the board off would help.

Ditto, I also get the Not Secure web address, on the buffering I normally get it 1-3 times a game, don't have a problem with anything else, FWIW still an excellent service though.

Worth noting that there wasn't a single issue of buffering during the YouTube stream last night and that was using the same connection and device as normal.
