Scotland trying so very hard tonight v Moldova to make a mess of winning a home game. Why this isn't 5 or 6 nil by now just shows how poor we are in front of goal. Faroe Islands holding Denmark 😲

For once however Scotland have made chances. All the subs just take the momentum out of the game. Like Rovers today, it was the wrong choice in front of goal more often than not.

Israel knock five past Austria.
Likely that Austria will hammer a number past Scotland in the next game. At least that'll put everyone out of their misery regarding qualifying for another World Cup.
One word to sum up tonight's game. Brutal.
And folk wonder why I long gave up interest in Scotland. Not just tonight but many games in the past have shown how badly we have regressed in comparison to many other nations and is symptomatic of the game in general in this country.

The consolation is that it will decided on head-to-heads, if second- and third-placed end equal on points. Those forwards are highly professional at club level, yet somehow seem to get the jitters when playing for the national team, as if the expectation gets to them.

I had just listened to Rovers "thrash" Forfar 1-0, then I was back for more of the above this evening. Still - it was a whole lot better than draws or even defeats against the run-of-play! Even more spookily, in both cases, the marginal wins in both games were of no consequence.

Do any of us underdog-faciers ever truly turn our backs on Scotland - I mean like the Old Firm fans who see their respective clubs as the true representatives of the nation? Do we ever completely forget that Scotland are even playing? No! We would not even be on here discussing it. We just have a wee bit of a strop at times - only because we expect better - and so we should!

There are two things that seem to hamper the Scottish psyche. The first is this new namby-pamby, politically correct culture of wrapping youngsters in cotton wool - having no winners and no losers. A culture lead by young, idealogical student-types, the likes of whom would love to try to talk people like Lewie Vaughn out of ever kicking a ball again. You get the drift. The second goes back much further - this Scottish, self-depreciating way of thinking - always that we are just not ever good enough - a total lack of self-belief at every level. That's where the likes of Denmark, Croatia, Greece, Portugal and the Czech Republic are streets ahead of us. Note that John McGlynn ironed out that kind of thinking with the Rovers over the last two seasons! We thought Falkirk would blow us away, then, when we went up, we thought it would be a fight to stay up. Instead, we damn nearly got promoted! That is what self-belief can do!

I am a big fan of Stevie Clark. I think he has vision. He has passion. He talks from the heart. He is not a chip of the old block or an Old Firm cast-off. He does not let (at times uninformed) reporters berate either his players or his choices and he is fair and sincere in the way that he talks that - unlike some recent Scotland managers. I really do think he is the best man to be there with this squad at this time. In recent years, higher profile managers have done a far worse job. I hope Stevie Clark gets the success out of his players that he truly deserves.

Are we now set for "the same old story" or could we be about to turn a massive corner? (No pun intended!) We will find out this year, but by close of business on Tuesday, a big part of that question will be answered, one way or the other!

Good post Neil, agree with most of that!

I’m not going to lose any sleep over a 1-0 victory, sure it wasn’t pretty for the last half hour against an awful side but Tuesday night is the big one…

I still believe we have a side full of very good players that once it gels together could trouble the best, let’s hope it clicks into place during the week!

I agree.
Until such time as our quality of coaching improves, we are going nowhere.

The English have improved somewhat since the import of foreign managers/COACHES.

Since the 80/90s, there have been VERY FEW real good Scottish coaches.
Liverpool/Man Utd apart.....there is a huge dearth of Scottish talent.

Coaching has gone the same way as our basic education system.....ie....backwards.

Its all about “tick boxes” ........almost impossible to fail anything.
Teachers/coaches do not want headlines of people/coaches FAILING.....its bad for business or bad for a teacher to fail students.

The evidence is in your face, you simply have to open your eyes.

People will disagree, they will maintain their blinkers like parents refusing to acknowledge their children are not angels etc etc.

Don’t argue with me......go argue with history.

The mindset of far too many is to accept rather than adapt.

No doubt there will be plenty that will disagree, which kind of proves the point.☹️☹️☹️.

There will always be people who will argue that REAL TURF is the only surface that should be used. That kind of thinking is why we are where we are.

A decent result especially given results elsewhere in the group but not much else to say. Gives hope for those who get in a lather everytime Scotland has a game.😲🤭

Thought it was a well dodgy penalty! (ie a foul, yes, but usually not awarded in the box)

Showed a great togetherness and a win at home v Israel all but seals 2nd spot, great nights work!

With the Scotland v Israel game kicking off at 5pm on the 9th of October, I hope common sense prevails and the East Fife game gets rescheduled away from the proposed 3pm kick off.
A Sunday afternoon or Friday night kick off would be ideal but even a worse case switch to 12.00 on the Saturday would help.
