Whilst the sheep sha**ers do have a sell on clause I think this is a good bit of business, McGlynn has a decent track record of bringing through young players and if Ross fulfills his potential, it wont be long before the ugly sisters come calling or he may follow ziggy down south. At 20 yo already he will have to work hard and prove he is worth the move fairly quickly if we are to cash in on him, in the meantime I will enjoy seeing him in a Rovers shirt once again and it may lead to a slight change in tactics with Dario moving to a central role.
The aficionados may know the answer to this, when did we last pay a 5 figure fee for a player (albeit a dev fee this time, unlike the one the pa*s didn't pay us for Nisbet), just wondering _________________ http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ |

I was thinking it might be more Connolly that will move to a central role, just off of Varian or Pop. _________________ Fantalk~Often wrong but never in doubt |

In defence of SP caterers we had their pies at our Malt Whisky tasting day 2 weeks ago and they were excellent.
Brook (NY sandwich Co) came in at mid-day to heat (bake finish) the Scotch, Steak and Macarone pies that had been freshly made just that morning. I think Jock Simpson wasn't sure how to take the unanimous concensus that they were far better than they normally are.
Unless I picked him up incorrectly, I'm sure Jock did say that the long term idea is to bake fresh on the premises.
Now about this young winger Ross?
Outstanding bit of busuiness!!! _________________ Competitive goals: Connolly 15, Gullan 7, Easton 7, Stanton 6, Vaughan 5, Dick 3, Akio 2, Brown 2, Connell 2, Goncalves 2, McBride 2, Frederiksen 1, McGill 1, Nolan 1, OG 1. |

He's installed a Rationale oven in one of the pie stalls which is well up to the task. _________________ Hope he's got plenty Rovers action to comment on tonight.... |

Scotty, your frequent reference to Pies made me think that I had strayed onto the other channel!
JMcG will have figured out how to play all his best players when Ethan is match fit and sharp.
At the moment, I'm leaning towards Connolly off the main striker. Dario is so effective coming off the left onto his right foot (but, again, other teams are increasingly aware of this). Not sure how two-footed Ethan is, but, if very left-footed, he needs to work on his right, whilst ,initially, mirroring Dario's movement.
Really liked his enthusiasm to play for The Rovers again. That bodes well. |

My initial thought was keeping Ross on his preferred left side, Connolly on the right and slotting Zanatta behind the CF with a freedom to roam. However, looking more at Ross, it seems likely he can slot in quite well as the SS/AM behind Varian or Poplatnik, while keeping Zanatta and Connolly wide.
From our previous time with Ross, we know he’s not a lightweight player that will be driven off the ball, and has plenty of skill to drive at and through the defense. This might be the replacement for Dylan Tait, of all things. That he can play for either of Zanatta or Connolly is true, but, if it comes right to it, Zanatta is the only one with CF experience…and we are obviously reaping benefit from Varian or Poplatnik at CF, so I don’t see dropping them.
Finally, he hasn’t played in a while, we have him for three years, so there’s no rush to get him into the starting 11 for a few weeks. I expect to see his first entry spelling Connolly, Zanatta or Tait in the next week or two. |

I appreciate that there is a ‘development fee’ to be paid, but given that he was released by Aberdeen, I cannot understand why there is a sell on fee. If he is no longer an Aberdeen player, surely they are not entitled to anything more than the development fee. _________________ He's no' hairy mary he's the Rovers' little fairy!

I don't know if he was in fact released. More maybe to do with turning down a new contract offer with Aberdeen. Possibly was still finishing off a contract? Really not too sure to be honest.
Or had it anything to do with him only 20 years old?
I really have absolutely no idea why there's a sell on fee.
Anyone? Help!🥴 _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

With him being under 23 he wouldn't have been able to sign for another club until a development fee was agreed with Aberdeen.
Possibly we have offered a sell on fee as a way to reduce the development fee ??? |

A bit of conjecture about the sell-on fee:
Ethan is under 23 and been with Aberdeen for circa 10 years. Aberdeen, it is understood, offered him another contract, which he did not accept. Aberdeen calculated a development fee of ,allegedly, £100k, and I haven't seen that figure disputed.
Raith and ,apparently, Queens Park , wanted to sign him but baulked at paying the full compensation legally due. The way round that was to offer Aberdeen an incentive to accept a lesser sum (we suspect an appreciably lesser sum). That incentive was to agree that Aberdeen would get a (rumoured, sizeable) percentage on a subsequent sale within the period of his new contract.
That suited all parties. Raith get a very promising player for less than the development fee to which Aberdeen are entitled and could hold out for, Aberdeen recognise the reality that the longer Ethan remains without playing, the less likely any club will meet their fee in reality, and Ethan gets to play at a club where he was happy previously ,knows the set-up and coaching provided and can kick on again (having woken up to the realities of making a move to England at the present time ie into an Under 23 squad, at best, or playing for a team down the leagues ).
Anyway, that's what it sounds like to me, but, as I say, just conjecture and happy to accept that I may be mistaken!
I see that Cainy has just stated it more succinctly |

Thanks lads. Right or wrong at least your suggestions provide some logic and sense to it. Whatever the ins and outs of it all, I think the Rovers have got a good prospect and I particularly like the idea of pinning these good youngsters down to a longer than the one year contract that has been happening far too often in the past. Hope it all works out to everyone’s satisfaction! _________________ He's no' hairy mary he's the Rovers' little fairy!
