GOZIE UGWU | We have added a new striker to the Rovers squad - Gozie Ugwu most recently played for Ebbsfleet United and has played in Scotland earlier in his career.

Welcome Gozie!

Great to hear him say that he likes to keep the ball on the ground. He looks tough enough not to be bullied off the ball and has plenty of experience in physical leagues.

Great too to hear McGlynn say that he wants to keep things fresh and unpredictable. Maybe that is why we are back in the Championship - against all the odds! It was definitely Barry Smith's downfall that his team and strategies became far too predictable. Ayr and Alloa exploited that ruthlessly when it mattered the most.

Would love to see the big lad sign on for another season (at least) with us, irrespective of what league we are in. If he can get a good run and stay injury free I think he could be a great foil for LV, mind you the goes for LV also.
And not just because of his goal yesterday, I think he has great presence, quick feet and a sharp mind to match.

Sad to say but he and Duku need to be released.
They have had a chance but apart from the odd wonder goal in truth they are just not up to the standard required. Tonight at Dens really exemplified they are not going to make it for another season.

I disagree. I think Duku will go as he must have upset McGlynn at some point.

Ugwu is a good target man and I’d keep a hold of him.

Yeah I think Ugwu can still do a job at championship level. Duku could as well but, and I'm merely speculating here, Duku's form took a nosedive at around the same time it was rumoured he had signed a pre contract elsewhere.

Can't help thinking somone has said to Manny at some point, that he was too good for us and that it went to his head. I can't help but wonder what an in-form Vaughan and and in form Duku, on the same field would have done!
Duku can't seem to score to save his life now - or his contracts I guess!

We might not have seen the best of Ugwu yet. He gives more to his game than Duku does, albeit lacks finishing-skills at times.

Duke was (as predicted elsewhere) like a firework that burns really fiercely to begin with but only to turn into a bit of damp squib, shame really but it seems he's done similar elsewhere.

Gozie is much more of a grafter but less prolific, I'd say he causes defenders lots of bother but when he gets a chance tends to fluff his lines more times than not and isn't as clinical as Duku was early on.

If I was to be keeping any of them it'd be GU but to be honest if we are to continue to improve than I'd be looking for an upgrade.

Duku was sensational for the first half of the season and no idea what happened but his form dipped dramatically. However, going by his early form he is surely worth another season to hopefully regain his goalscoring touch. Ugwu was better in the second half of the season and scored a couple of cracking goals (tynecastle, home v Pars) and when in the mood is a handful for defenders. I would happily keep both!
