I was reading last month that Killie wanted to retain him but he was looking for a move closer to home. It wouldn't be too hard to workout that we would be offering him less wages than Killie.
Is he part time by any chance and taken a job out with football or is a daily commute to Kirkcaldy a better pull than to ayrshire. |

First signing that doesn’t suggest a concern we’ll be playing League One next year (or this year). |

Seems a good signing. I wonder if Robbie knew anything about this before he put pen to paper a couple of days ago?
I would assume this relegates him to second choice / back-up keeper now? |

It will give Thomson competition and make us strong in the goalkeeping dept.
I think Thomson is a lucky lad to be offered a new deal considering he only played 37 games in two years. |

Oh I absolutely agree SR. He's definitely no his faither! (Yet)
I simply wondered if he was aware of a further Goal Keeper signing before he signed? Maybe the lad thinks he ought to be our number one. He has certainly not had his troubles to seek over the last 18 months.
If you watch J McG's interview regarding the new signing: I think that is the most nervous and lost for words I have ever seen John, when asked about how the Goal Keepers will engage. (Watch it again)
I personally think Goal Keepers have it hard in todays game. Training is one thing, but they need to be playing in actual games to keep their sharpness both in being spacially aware and accurate ball handling. Sadly the modern Scottish game has no reserve teams and therefore denies them of the ability to remain sharp.
Being consigned to the bench every Saturday dulls their precision and I am sure Robbie will be aware of this.
However, the point of being more hungry for the jersey is not lost on me. |

Sorry Robbie but John didn't sign a keeper of this pedigree to warm the bench. |

I think MacDonald will be our number 1, with thomson going out on loan to get games and Mcgurn being on the bench. |

Ah, I hadn't thought of the loan situation BP, now that is a possibility. Give him consistent games, but keep him tied to us. Only downside to that is him playing with a different defence week in week out, then expected to just slot in to the back of our defence should MacDonald break down for any reason.
I do agree it will be the more experienced MacDonald to have first shout at the gloves. I hope however John does not repeat the mistake of last season when he went through a phase of rotating the Goal Keepers week about. This is so unsettling for the rest of the defence.
Can I just make it clear that I think Robbie has the makings of a very good Keeper. In my opinion his developing skill kept us in many games last season with very few, if any, howlers. |

Robbie Thomson signed a 1 year deal, there is no way he's spending that time out on loan from the club, it makes no sense from out point of view. I think he and MacDonald will challenge it out for the number 1 spot with McGurn more of a coaching capacity |

I didn't see the point in re-signing McGurn except in a coaching role but register him as emergency back up, bit like Davo really, no idea why we have signed him again unless his role is to be mostly coaching.
Certainly wouldn't want to see us trying to compete with a back five that included McGurn & Davo, sorry but no place for emotion when survival is key
Would expect Mac to be #1 with Thomo #2 but encouraged to push him all the way. _________________ http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ |
