Who voted for our councillors & why?
Downfall started with letting Tesco's close over rates & the carpark. |

I walked along Dunfermline High Street and through The Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Dunfermline today. Night and day from Kirkcaldy High Street and The Mercat. What Kirkcaldy should do en masse is vote in some nutty fringe parties councillors to raise some notice of the state of Kirkcaldy and how the locals feel about it. Get a bit of TV coverage. The nutty councillors probably wouldn’t be that out of their depth. _________________ This is the year we win the Play-offs. |

I would vote for the Ugly Party if it meant more jobs & developments. The council favoured housing project was delayed for 7 years while other projects at Invertiel, Balwearie & Dysart were rejected. Do the numpties at Fife House
still think we are all in the hovercraft business. |

I still recall visiting J. Menzie’s on the High Street, and the Mercat, both well before pedestrianization. The reality is the old High Street is dead, and even reopening the roadway won’t revitalize it. However, it would allow more hyperlocal, small businesses to have a shot.
A successful few might attract a little more and slowly revive the area, but only with Council support...a fairly unlikely event. Until some entertainment/service locations decide the number of residents within footfall of the High Street warrant a location opening, the storefronts will languish like rural America’s small town Main Street’s...dilapidated and rotting, appealing to few.
The residents are the advantage that must be leveraged, to give them options to the Retail Centers outside the City Center, but again, that requires the Council to act to drive the change. |

Far be it for me to remark on his mental state, but I will, he is off his head, first if this gets off the ground, second if he can ignore projects throughout Fife which deserve the capital funds better.

Apparently we are out of step with public opinion. Bring on the Leven whales...once they find £50 million. Also £50 million was just a guess. Could be £30 million could be £100 million. Doesn’t make the project any less viable.
I still think the train station would be a better option, but the public have spoken. |
Combine the two and have a whale way station..........I’ll get ma coat. |

It looks like my old company are back in serious trouble.
Quote: | There are concerns for Kirkcaldy-based firm Havelock after staff say they have not been paid.
It is understood that there are over 200 workers at the plant, and wages were meant to be paid today but were not.
One insider told the Fife Free Press that staff were sent home at 4pm yesteday and told to report back at 12pm today.
The firm is based at Mitchelston Industrial Estate, and last year pulled out of its brand new premises at John Smith Business Park.
The source told the Press: “Wages were meant to be paid this morning, but they weren’t.
“There isn’t enough money in the bank to pay them, they’re about £300k short. The wages bill is close to £500k.”
Havelock last year went into administration but were saved by investment firm Rcapital.
Rcapital have been approached for comment. |
If the worst happens, it's not exactly going to help the retail situation in the town.
(Maybe if they hadn't made most of the ESA McIntosh staff redundant back in 2009 - myself included - they wouldn't have got into this mess.)

Very sad news, but it's a spiralling situation. If the retail sector isn't doing well, demand for shopfitting will suffer accordingly.
Another hammer blow to the town's economy as the powers that be point the finger at each other with one hand, but pat themselves on the back with the other with their masterplan to regenerate the town. _________________ Dougie Hill

Sad indeed
What do you regenerate the town with.If people are not spending money or dont have the money to spend companies are hardly going to open up premises.I see The Works is opening next to Boots whilst Debenhams is closing before middle of January. Not much movement regards the new coffee shop either that was due to open in July in the old Next shop on high street _________________ THERES FIVE OF ME |

They're saying they want a cinema to be the catalyst for regeneration.
It's about high time they dropped the kidding on and pretence. No cinema chain is going to touch Kirkcaldy with a barge pole while the parking situation remains as it is.
Provide free parking and it'll increase footfall. What they lose in parking revenue, they'll more than recoup in rates from shops being open. _________________ Dougie Hill
