I'll be there again this year on behalf of our club and if by any chance any other supporter is over there on the day please make yourself known to me. I'd be delighted to meet and greet you and share the experience. There will be the usual representation from other clubs. Hearts, Hibs Falkirk and DAFC who have two representatives on the coach as far as I'm aware, as well as a representative of the Scottish government, most probably Keith Brown, if the past 3 years are anything to go by.
On our last day we will be taking in where George McLay was killed close to Poelcapelle in 1917 and whose body was never recovered. He is commemorated on a panel in Tyne Cot cemetery which we visited last year.
Not doing or bothering too much with Twitter or Facebook I'll try to get some of my compatriots to post a few photos.
Should be a bit less stressful (because of the very necessary security arrangements) than last year's centenary commemorations. Smile

That's me got the case packed for another trip out to the 2018 commemoration in Contalmaison. Leave here early bus Thursday morning to Edinburgh then out by overnight ferry arriving Friday in Arras. Ceremony on Sunday 1st July.
I'll be there on behalf of the club as ambassador to McCraes Battalion.
Seems a wee bit of a pretentious title but at least we'll be represented at the laying of wreaths alongside Hearts Hibs Falkirk and Dunfermline of the professional football clubs. A number of other bodies will also be there on behalf of the Scottish Government and French authorities.
Not being a devotee of Twitter or Facebook, photos will be in short supply unless I can get someone to do them for me.
Hoping to meet up with Harry Gould again as he goes every year to be on the Somme for the 1st July ceremonies.
If anyone is, by any chance, there please introduce yourself.
Will be truly delighted to see and meet you.

Suffered temps of 35/36 degrees today in Belgium and N France.
Hearts ambassador, a certain Gary Locke, is a couple of rooms away down the corridor.
Whilst his managerial career wasn't what we'd hoped for, the guy is very highly thought of by Hearts folk, in particular for his charity work and personal involvement with young unwell kids.
Big day tomorrow.
Just a pity some others couldn't have joined me.
Having to share a room with the secretary of the Pars Heritage Trust! Three of them here on behalf of DAFC.
We've just agreed no' to speak about fitba'! Wink

It's unfortunate in that respect that the season starts so early now.
People are left with a straight choice -
Contalmaison v Methil on Wednesday.
Previous war zone v current war zone.

Delighted to report that I had 3 Raith stalwarts with me on the day. Messrs Harry Gould and his brother along with James Miller, Judith in the office's dad.
So pleased they were there on behalf of Raith Rovers.
As per last year I asked them to accompany me to come up to lay the wreath and once again Harry said he'd be very honoured to do so. The others declined gracefully.
Blistering heat again, even at 9 am.
This year we had the Newfoundland Armed forces band on parade and it's not every day you can say you were standing beside the Prime Minister of Newfoundland as was the case today. Aussies also there.
Will try to get some photos through at some point in the next day.

Not Contalmaison, but well done to the Pars for the commemoration.

Was at Moeuvres two years ago with them. We met up in the village and taken to where Davie Hunter won his VC across the field at the edge of the village.
The Pars fans filled a bus full of supporters that year for their pilgrimage including Ian Hunter who laid a very personal wreath near the spot of action even though his grandfather survived the war. The village of Moeuvres welcomed them full heartedly with food and drink in marquees on the village green. A lovely couple of hours. I've a feeling they've twinned Dunfermline and Moeuvres, or are working on it. It was a lady mayor when I visited and she kindly let me into an upstairs room to get aerial photos including the Saltire flying side by side with the Tricolour on the balcony. Really good memories.
Delighted to read of the Hunter family VC memorial to be constructed outside East End. Say what you will, but DAFC Heritage Society are right up there in my opinion.
Thanks for link WJ.

74 years ago since the battle of Arnhem, Vitesse supporters pay tribute to those that fought in the battle.
