If the covers are put down and then removed mid morning on Saturday there is no reason why this game won't go ahead. I'm sure everyone at Raith Rovers will be doing there best to make sure this game is on.
Im sure the lads will do up proud regardless of injures |
Certainly hope you are right but we have had games postponed before due to heavy rain despite our fantastic draining system. The amount of rain scheduled from mid morning up to kick off is what concerns me the most. |

It's a good drying day today. The forecast, however, is pretty bad for tonight and tomorrow. I'm sure the ground staff will be taking all the necessary precautions to ensure the game goes ahead.
I would imagine the covers will be down tonight and lifted prior to the game. Unfortunately any inspection would consider not only the playing surface but the immediate areas surrounding the pitch. This includes the the track around the pitch which can sometimes become inundated with water which is difficult to remove.
As I mentioned I'm sure the ground staff will be on top of things. |

There was a serious doubt right up to 2pm with the Falkirk game earlier in November. As far as I recollect the ref allowed it to go ahead as long as the bottom goalmouth was sanded heavily to soak up the water. The track did indeed hold water but the forecast was for the rain to lessen around kick off so he let it go. I'd imagine it will be much the same tomorrow depending on when the rain is likely to abate. Looking at the forecast I forecast a late call off. It's what these official folk are awfy good at doing. They have a decent track record over the years. Instance last week with Wick Academy v Linlithgow Rose. Called off at 2.20ish despite passing three local inspections beforehand. The Rose officials were, shall we say, less than amused! Academy now asking for the match official to be in the county on a Friday evening rather than turning up at 2pm on match day. I'm lead to believe the pitch was playable but the belief is the referee was covering his derrière just in case someone slid off the pitch and maybe collided with a barrier post around the pitch. By the forecast for here it disnae look as if it has much hope of going ahead tomorrow either. It's a litigious world we live fearful of these days. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

Think there is a big difference between a club such as Linlithgow Rose with their handful of fans being told at the back of 2 o`clock that the game is off and a club such as The Rangers with their huge support being told the same thing. Think a midday inspection would be as late as they will leave it especially with the Bridge being closed. |

Very true. However, having just seen tomorrow's forecast and with a bit of meteorological background I think my prediction for our game would be >80% chance of it being off. This figure may not be totally accurate but it'll do for now. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

I could be wrong but I thought the covers were only for frost/snow protection? |

I remember when either side of the old firm visiting our ground caused mass hysteria and hype...queues right down pratt street for tickets, sold out stadiums....pretty apathetic to this fixture these days, maybe as we play them a lot more at this moment.
anyway, was sitting on the fence on this one in terms of spending my hard earned petrol money.. but with the weather, the closing of the bridge and resulting traffic chaos going over the other bridge, plus the sectarian bile being spilled from the other end of the ground...kinda not sure...
Maybe a wave of enthusiasm will rush over me tomorrow and I will get the train over.
With the expectation probably low for a result, the injury crisis and upcoming hectic Christmas period - is tomorrow not an ideal time to experiment with some youngsters and fringe players. Sure they are young, but what's the worst that can happen ? we get beat ... would like to see Ford in at right back, Bates in the middle probably with Davo if no one else fit, how about Matthews and Callaghan in the middle, Laidlaw in goals even...Cant see it though in-case Rangers run up a cricket score and dent our fragile confidence even more.
I do think we need to play our most quick and mobile team to compete with Rangers though, this is what Hibs done. Rangers have pace all over the park from full backs through midfield and upfront. Anderson on the right to counter act Wallace..Pace on the left needed to counter Tavernier, etc. |

That is indeed correct. I was under the impression that they would protect from the rain. They are in fact designed to protect from frost. They are porous and don't protect from rain at all. You learn something every day!!

If the wind is as bad as this tomorrow the game should be called off regardless of the weather. The match would be farcical. _________________ If I were a fighter I'd probably kick your ass. |

Playing them in lottery conditions may well be our only chance of getting a result I suppose. _________________ If I were a fighter I'd probably kick your ass. |

As a point of reference the game at Tynecastle has already been called off. |
