Your right that they knew they were signing a good keeper but it's hard to get away from the fact that as Davy was arguably the most popular player at SP the board being hard headed business men would see that there could be a few more season tickets to be sold on the back of it. However my main point was it left the new manager with a headache. Who's to say that any of the keepers would have been his first choice. However we are where we are and the managers job is to solve these problems and get a successful team on the park so lets get right behind the Rovers.

It was common knowledge the fans weren't happy with Murray at the helm, not everyone I agree, but a high proportion at least were wanting a change. Prior to his sacking it was 'rumoured' (emphasis on rumour here) that Murray was maybe going to do a McKinnon and not be keen on part time players. I think that was evident in the fact McGurn appeared to be in limbo with regards to whether he'd be getting a new deal. Murray is then sacked, the majority of fans are happy, then several days later we offer arguably our most popular player not one but a two year deal with the option of a third. You just don't offer those deals at our level unless you know the importance that player holds at the club and/or to appease the fans....or like I said earlier maybe get a few more season tickets sold. The fact he's signed, with what seems no hesitation, and came out saying he loves being here certainly adds a bit of truth in the 'rumour' that maybe Murray wasn't going to offer him a new deal. From a business point of view it made sense to increase the feel good factor around the club by not hanging around offering a player that fans were desperate to get re-signed. What better way to do it than the deal he was offered. Conspiracy theory? maybe, however still plausible just is ho94 opinion on the situation.

Don't get me wrong I bought my season ticket and would have even if McGurn hadn't been re-signed and if Murray was still in charge. Who McKinnon plays in goals is his choice as long as they do the business. I agree with most regarding getting behind who is on the pitch, Cuthbert isn't exactly going to pass up the option of being number 1 to keep the McGurn lovers happy.

on the flip side of all this, If another club comes in to sign Mcgurn part time or not we would be due a reasonably good transfer fee for a keeper that is / has been one of the best in the division, could possibly be an astute move by the club giving him a lengthy contract

I'd hazard a guess even we wouldn't be able to pay a transfer fee for a player let alone a part time team, which it would have to be, if they came in for McGurn.

nice to start a wee debate/argument. Just lucky that we have a goalkeeper performing well and an even better one waiting in reserve.

Give me odds on that and i will place a bet with you. He will keep another clean sheet as long as the defence do thier job.

McGurn is training but Laidlaw is favoured as today's sub.
