Darrell grew up next door to my mother's cousin and her family in Bendameer Road. Those who know Burntisland will know where that is, those who don't, its the first street on the left as you approach from Aberdour. I never really knew Darrell but remember his mum and dad, Johnny and Margaret well. Nice folks they were. Read something in the paper just the other day that Dan McCafferty has had to pack in due to ill health. fairly sure it was lung/breathe related.
Found this on line----
Nazareth announced McCafferty's retirement from the band due to ill health on 28 August 2013, leaving Pete Agnew as the sole remaining founding member of the band.
There you go! Another nugget of minutiae for breakfast. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

I did know that some past member or members were from Burntisland . Just a shot in the dark , hair of the dog , this flight tonight , etc , lol |

I have been talking to the manager of kittys and next years rtr will be on either 23rd/24th august or 30th/31st august although i favour the latter due to pay dates etc.I dont know whether it will be 1 day or 2 days altho both ideas were discussed. _________________ YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE

The 23rd / 24th might be an ok bet in that the 25th is a Bank Holiday Monday and might encourage a few to go out on the randan on the Sunday. _________________ Dougie Hill

The problem i have and i have had it for years is getting a day that suits everyone.I have stuck to that bank holiday since day 1 but not evryone in fife gets it so its a struggle to get folk in.I thought that next year we could have it the week folk get paid which may entice even more folk in.That along with cutting the number of acts playing so its not such a long day may help. Then again it may not happen at all as things havent been sorted with the venue etc etc. _________________ YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE

I think you would sell tickets if you managed to get a famous band/act to headline it with the other local bands playing during the day. I appreciate that costs would increase but you may be able to lure a more local act like say The Proclaimers to cut their costs if you made them aware of the charity / history of the event and you may get sponsors more inclined to pay more in sponsorship for a famous band. |

Thats all fair and well mate but the whole point of rock the rovers apart from the obvious was to help up and coming bands/solo`s or even well known local ones play at the gig.Which i think we have managed to do over the years plus we have also brought bands from sheffield, dublin, glasgow, stirling, falkirk, dunfermline, belfast, edinburgh so i think we have done well.I have always treated everyone the same but for the 10th i wanted to get a few big names in but so far i havent managed to do so but will keep trying.
I really dont know what the future holds for the gig as i mentioned in the press but if we can get the 10th out the road then we can see.I think if it is going to continue it will go to every 2 years as i get the feeling folk are bored with it.I am also not sure what the owners of the venue want to do as i get mixed messages from them. They want it to continue but want it cut down not only on time but also to use only one stage which i dont want. The manager also says i should make it a rovers fundraiser only but that wont happen with this gig anyway even though i am a diehard rover.
One thing i do know is that the charities are over the moon with what i am giving them this year despite having to give them less than i hope to give. They will all be at the falkirk game on sept 28th to receive their cheques and they are all staying for the game i think. There will be one wee boy going who has a cleft palate and that game will be his first football match. So i hope roary rover is there and i may get him to meet the players. This sort of thing is one of the reasons why i give money to charities aswell as the football club. _________________ YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE
