First of all i dont want fans to donate their hard earned cash into any community foundation we would raise money through other avenues. All i want is the club to do more in the community working with school, youth clubs etc etc. There is so much that can be done that isnt so i dont want the fans to think this is another fundraising idea its community FOUNDATION for the COMMUNITY.

I put a proposal to our fans rep in the hope that we could set up a community foundation or a community group as raith need to be involved in the community more than they are. This has been something that has been ongoing since the takeover in 2005 and never really happened for whatever reason.Myself and a few others have done our wee bit by organising visits at christmas with the players to take presents to the kids and those having a bad time of it.As far as i am concerned its been a success and to tell you the truth its emotional and seeing the kids getting a present from roary or a professional footballer is great. What i asked was for the club to help set up a community foundation or community group which would able to run these visits and a lot more professionally.I am not going to have a go at the club, fans rep or anybody but what i will say is that i am very disappointed with the reply i got.

I have been told that the fans forum was asked to go to their members and see if anyone was interested in being involved.I was also told that no one has come back to say anyone is wanting to be involved as a trustee, volunteeer or anything. What i dont understand is 1.why no one wants to help and 2.why cant the club with the big name supporters not ask them to become trustees.I know there is a lot of work required to set this up but with everyone pulling together it could work but its not going to well not in the near future. So i have decided and it breaks my heart to do so that i wont be organising any of the visits and will take a step a back from offering to do anything in the community.RTR will still go ahead, geordie munro song is still on sale so if theres any more money made the club will receive it.I will also do the wall of fame tiles as they are an ongoing thing but any new community stuff wont happen.I hope that someone from the forum will continue the visits as they are really important to the kids and the patients.I may have taken the answer the wrong way and over reacted but i dont see why i should keep on giving ideas and doing things when no one else is.

Very sorry to hear this Gav, but don't blame you for stepping back, as you must feel like you're banging your head off a brick wall. Hopefully some others will step up to the plate and a bit more support from within will be forthcoming.
I know you're not interested in any personal gain or recognition, but you should be extremely proud of all your efforts over such a long time.

Disappointing to hear Quinny. Perhaps a better outline of what you are looking for, and what feedback you've been given as to the reasons why this isn't feasible will help us to understand what needs to change if it is ever going to work.

In simple terms, you are asking an underfunded business & group of volunteers for time and resource so it's important to be clear exactly what you are looking for. For example, if you were looking for me to get involved (as I notice my name was mentioned a few pages back Shocked ) I'd be looking for specifics rather than vague principles so if this did get up and running I would want to know:

- What specifically are you looking to happen over the next year i.e. a list of the top 10 things you want to see happen, something specific and tangible (as opposed to vauge 'community types of things'). The hospital visits being a good example
- What type of time commitment is involved in organising? And for club officials (i.e. players)
- What type of experience is needed?
- where is the demand coming from? i.e. who is actually looking for/asking the club for support? or is it up to the group to source opportunities? Are your ideas purely speculation, or have community groups asked the club for help?
- what counts as the 'local community'? just Kirkcaldy?
- who else has this type of setup? what do they do, how successful is it and what can we learn from them?
- if you were given the commitment and resource today, what are the next steps? i.e. what would we see happen over the next few months?
- How do we know if this is a success?

I'd be massively disappointed if the club/fans forum are not being supportive because they don't want to do the 'community stuff', I suspect it's more that there are a) other priorities and b) no-one with the ncessary experience and or availability however that is just my view. If you're asking fans/club officials to choose between investing time & effort in community activities or raising working capital for the club, I can understand why people may be more inclined to the latter.

First of all the club is a community club meant to be so fans shouldnt really have to be trying to set this up when it should come from within.I havent really been able to discuss whats required as the idea didnt get past first base or to even a meeting. If you want the info then i will sit down write it up but steli you have been involved so you know full well what can and cant be done. There is grants out there for this type of thing so if anyone was interested then the money would be found.

We are in a very changed environment since the original 'community club' proposal was put forward in 2005, both on the pitch and off it. I would argue we are probably in a worse position now than 8 years ago.

Even then, I think most would agree the concept was still a bit 'wooly' as to what exactly a 'community club' is supposed to do, and the original document drafted by Dave Sommerville may also have struggled to answer my questions.

The reality is, the club do not have the capacity to initiate these ideas in the current climate, and a more developed proposal is probably needed if this is to be conisdered seriously by either the club or fans groups.

All very well steli but how can a more developed proposal be considered if no one is interested in it happening.I am not daft [even though i act it at times]and know full well that this wouldnt happen over night but i dont accept for one minute that we as a club of a reasonable size cant do more for the community. But it has been knocked back so it wont be mentioned again.

Very Happy Very Happy yep great news with the club/community group being set up . Lets hope they can reach out and get schools , community centres , and local authorities involved to get things off the ground .

The key to this for me is getting the kids and schools involved. Its our future support .

Good to see that it is happening at last. It's a shame that it has taken so long to reach this stage as something along these lines has been suggested several times not least by yourself SOW. Like Bigeen I think it is important to involve existing community groups such as schools, youth clubs etc and build something that will eventually encompass all ages and parts of the Fife community and beyond. Even Alloa apparently have a setup involving upwards of 300 kids playing football every week and involving parents and families too. It has to be the way ahead for both the playing side and the supporting side.
