Personally I feel we are capable of surviving (just) but I also don't class 9th spot as relegation, not by a long shot.
Over two legs v any side from the 2nd Div I would like to think we would be too strong.....will maybe find this out in the not too distant future..... |

I think there's really two questions here and I voted yes because I would take 9th at the moment but I think we are capable of finishing 8th. |

I think that Ayr will beat Morton this weekend and the best we will get from Dundee is a draw so that would leave us 4 behind Ayr, who then for arguments sake draw with Dundee in the game in hand leaving us 5 points behind them and Morton with 7 games left.
We then travel to Ross County and Ayr travel to QOS and I can't see us getting a better result against the league leaders than Ayr will against the bottom team (again for arguments sake I'll give us and Ayr a draw) so we'll be 4 behind Morton and 5 behind Ayr with 6 games left.
I can't see us picking up enough points to overhaul that with the games we have left;
Hamilton (H)
Livingston (H)
Partick Thistle (A)
Falkirk (A)
QOS (H)
Morton (A)
I REALLY hope that I'm wrong in all of the above and we get 24 points from our last 8 games and finish 4th but unfortunately I can't see it!! _________________ “If it doesn’t matter who wins or loses, then why do they keep score?” Vince Lombardi |

I'll Be happy if it goes to the last couple of games.............cos that means we are still in with a chance of avoiding the dreaded 10th place finish
I would have been more optomistic if graham had not got himself banned for however many games..............he is gonna be walking a tightrope till the end of the season _________________ Born a Rover Live a Rover Die a Rover |

God no! 9th should be the worst case. It won't surprise me if we finish 9th and I thought we would finish there at the turn of the year, however I hope we can keep picking up points and manage an 8th place finish. _________________ This is the year we win the Play-offs. |

I would class 9th place as fairly likely relegation. Look at our record in cup games and play-offs, it could be better. We would have to beat two 2nd Division teams. Doesn't seem like a big task but I'm sure we would struggle. _________________ This is the year we win the Play-offs. |

Finishing 9th is as good as relegation for us. With our record against lower league sides there is next to no chance we'll win the play offs.
It's pretty much out of our hands now though. If Ayr pick up 4 points or more from their next two games we're down. _________________ If I were a fighter I'd probably kick your ass. |

Given 10th is automatoc relegation and 9th gives you an additional 2-4 games to stake your claim of course I'd take 9th.
Finishing 9th leaves your fate firmly in your own hands and you have to say if you cannot beat 2 x second division teams over two legs you really shouldn't be in the first division.
I think our recent form is actually good enough to survive via the play offs if sustained. Its not our recent form that is the reason we are where we are.
I still maintain though finishing behind Ayr is a major embarrassment and failure at all levels. |

9th is better than 10th!, but with the managers woeful cup record and his seeming inability to get the team up for big games, I fear we would be doomed, hope I'm wrong and we win the rest of our games, but I fear the worst. _________________ We dont need no stinking badges |

No. 9th should be worst case. Queens are honking (yes I know they beat us) and I would be mortified if we were to finish below them.
Am I right in thinking that only once has the 9th placed First Division side stayed up via the play-offs?
Its a different ball game finishing ninth and trying to pick yourself up for an extra 2-4 games just to simply stay in the league, as opposed to finishing 4th in the Second where you will be buzzing.
Yes the quality should show through, but these are one-off games. Plus, this is the Rovers we are speaking about. We have a history of bottling big one off games, and our playoff record is poor to say the least.
We went to Alloa (a team that got RELEGATED from the 2nd last season) on Scottish Cup duty whilst top of the league and got royally turned over. I aint taking nothing for granted.
Still, I wouldnt be overly surprised to see us above Ayr on Saturday. If we win against Dundee (not impossible) and they dont win against Morton (not impossible) then we find ourselves 8th. Yes Ayr have a game in hand, but points on the board are what matters.
To me, its a case of playing like we did last week from now until the end. If we do, we will stay up one way or another. However, if we dont show that grit/fight/spirit then we will certainly go down. Simple as, thats our strong point. |

finishing 9th and playing against teams who are used to winning and have confidence against us who have lost numerous games and confidence low then I would be worried. I still feel that our goal difference may work in our favour and we could sneak 8th. Ayr and QOS have an inferior goal difference to us. I am clutching at straws but BELIEVE!! |
