So Slim Jim is the 1st to be inducted into the hall of fame.

Hopefully this will be the 1st of many and the start of an annual (or Biannual) event that will will raise funds for years to come.

Sadly most of the ideal claimants for induction are no longer with us but there are some who are and clearly qualify.

I'd vote that Ernie Till is inducted next and then for a few years we induct two or three posthumous greats.

Then in 2007 (perhaps around November the 27th) we induct the whole Coca-Cola cup squad in a oner.

Nothing will kill off the event sooner than apathy so perhaps a biannual event with multiple inductions will keep it alive longer.
I hope the folks at the sharp end have a good plan and are looking ahead with a view to long term interest and revenue.

Jim baxter is a scottish legend and a raith legend of sorts plus we were his first professional club he played for but i would have thought that there are more worthy players to start of the hall of fame. Now i am not having a go at the selection as he was a quality player one of the greatest of his generation but theres others who played far more games etc than him.I dont have a problem with jim being inducted at some point and those sharp eyed punters in the south stand will see that he is on my legends wall of fame.I just think it should have been done different with other legends chosen first and maybe a bit better but its done now.My opinion .........

I hear what you're saying Gav. I was asked to help last weekend by which time the event had been set up by Alistair Cameron and Allan Crow who have already put in great time and effort ( you've been there ).

Perhaps some may consider Jim Baxter to be one of the greatest players who has been a Rover rather than a Great Rover but I think his career and story provides plenty to work with for the first event.

The fans hopefully can get together and work out a process to decide which players should be entered in the years to come and at the same time we all enjoy a Rovers night and raise some cash.

We are looking for anyone with any Jim Baxter stories or memorabilia. If anyone has either or if anyone wants to contact me generally about the night I am on willie@macgregorsol.com or 07740985788.

I hope everyone rallies round to make the night a success and raise some funds.

To gain a wide audience and as much (scotland wide) publicity as possible, Baxter is the best option.

His appeal is nationwide and should help sell the event, although an Ernie Till or Johnny Urquhart did more for RRFC, you are then limiting the event to the Raith fanbase.

On a personal level, I would argue that Alex James had a greater impact on the game, maybe next time.

Its a brilliant idea and one many of us came up with many years ago.

So where exactly is the Hall of Fame in the stadium?

It would be brilliant to have a dedicated room/bar/museum other than the 200 club.

Its a raith hall of fame so why should we worry about it being nationwide we should worry about getting raith fans along.I think the hall of fame is a fantastic idea and should have been done long before now i just personally think there is more legends who should be in first. Is every hall of fame dinner gonna just have 1 inductee or will there be more each time.Tam i set up the legends wall of fame in the south stand so i am not sure much of the organisers know about it.If they do i wouldnt think the new one would be in the same stand. Its more likely to be in the 200 club or even in the NEW function suite [maybe]that might be built in the railway stand.

We need to tap into the wallets of other folk rather than just Raith fans, who have had almost every spare ounce of cash squeezed out of them already.

I can understand why they picked Baxter in order to promote the hall of fame. I would imagine that it will be easier to attract speakers in regards baxters than perhaps some other players. Also agree that from a pure football perspective others would stand out before Baxter for their service to the rovers (daz, nicholl and a lot of players going back to before my time). In future tears if players with a lower profile are being inducted could be a good idea to induct 3 or 4 per ceremony

I sometimes wonder about raith fans and if jim baxter had played 400 games and scored 150 games then yes that would be deserved but he didnt.I just think we should look at players who did more for us altho he was a legend and a brilliant player. As for the comment about getting money from non rovers fans why say that when its a rovers hall of fame.We fans should celebrate rovers legends not just look to make money all the time.I think you would find that more rovers fans would go to this if it was going to be reasonably priced and celebrated true RAITH ROVERS LEGENDS.I am quite sure jim has been inducted into the rangers hall of fame but that was deserved because of what he did for them but all we were was a stepping stone on his way to better things. My opinion thats all and i may not go to the dinner but will go in future if it is for true raith legends.Brian players of lower profile as you call it are rovers legends as these were the men that led us to a national cup win into europe and the premier league.I can guarantee we would sell out dinners twice over for them because of who they are.I am not saying this one wont as non rovers fans with lots of money will be there to celebrate his induction into the hall.Sorry jim

Me too, many comments on here in the past about poorly attended fund raisers, and here we go again.

If I can get tickets, I'll be there for a truely unique evening, and fair play to the organisers for getting this together (at long last)

I respect your opinion Gav and the opinions of the three or four others who I have met this week and who offered their choice of a better first inductee. As I said earlier Jim Baxter may be not be everyone’s first choice ‘Greatest Rover’ but the night is arranged and I am going do my best to assist the committee in their efforts to make it a success.

I do not expect a great turnout of ‘ non rovers fans with lots of money’ The night is clearly aimed at Rovers fans and I expect, given the numbers and ticket price, that any Rovers fan wanting a ticket will get one. That being the case I do not see anything wrong thereafter with other fans taking in the event. As a fundraising event the aim is to arrange a night everyone enjoys and raise as much for the club at the same time. Why restrict the audience?

I reckon we will have other great Rovers nights honouring players from the past and I think I would go even if I thought the organisers had omitted more deserving players. We all share the common goal of improving the club. I doubt if there is anyone who has spent more hours fundraising than you Gav so I would be disappointed not to see you there.

ok i wont commemt again on this as folk have done a lot of organising but it was just my opinion that we should honour more deserving RAITH LEGENDS thats all.Jim baxter is still a legend and always will be but maybe shouldnt have been our very first hall of fame one thats all.

Laurie Ellis - 300 odd appearances in 10 years. And third time at the club.

Now that's legendary.

Testimonial?
